It's rather illogical to blithely assume that, were Saddam left unmolested in 2003, that the region would have maintained that stasis for all of the intervening years, clear up to late Sept 2014.

Illogical and quite naive to make that assumption.

However, I do sympathize with the sentiment.

Some good discussion here.

The problem though, is that it's being interrupted by stupid people with the "warhawk libs!", "bush did it too!", & "if he had an R or D after his name!".

How unfortunate.

That is pretty funny. Two or three years ago Yanukovych was in power, most of Ukraine's defense policy was producing a good bit of their own military equipment and selling it to China, Sudan, Iraq and Burma. I wonder where the 400 or so BTR-4s that Iraq ordered ended up. They would have taken our stuff and sold it to the Chinese.

You negotiate with people to exact a price.

Do we do that anymore?

Obama's style is hands off, he waits to react to events. He doesn't build alliances and he can't make friends. In a pinch no one counts on the man to have their back.

Keep laughing, US interests are being weakened everyday around the globe as we react to events that our way out of our control. That is obvious to most people except for the ones making excuses for Obama.

I just pray nothing happens here in the homeland as we stagger back from Iraq, Afghanistan, and we lose our allies one by one as we allow our border to be crossed with impunity.

But it's not too tough to trace an actual timeline straight back to Sadaam as to how it's all unraveled.

I believe we do. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I suggest reading "Confessions of an Economic Hitman."

Specifically, what are these "interests" that are being weakened?

I don't give a frick what happens to Nazi Germany. I do, however, hope the United States stays safe.

indeed. He is not a leader. And it's not good.

If you would have told me in 2008... After 8 years of the GWOT and all of GWB unilateral moves we'd have LESS alliances and worse allied relationships in 2014...I would have called you crazy.

Obama has squandered many opportunities that even I --a BHO critic-- expected him to succeed at. It's maddening.

No. However, one has to choose to:

I don't know if anyone pointed it, but this is all about ISIS selling oil on the black market. There is no strategy bc the plan isn't to destroy ISIS; it is simply to make them stop selling oil the way the are. I know, conspiracy blah blah. OPEC is the most powerful entity on the planet; surely, you people don't think they would lose control of oil or oil prices.

This bombing is going on for the same reason you have O2 sensors and a catalytic converter in your vehicle. at you people who think oxygen sensors have anything to do with protecting the environment. Do you really think oxygen in your fuel system comes out and hurts the environment?

Do you honestly believe that Syria is O.K. with another country bombing it?

Some Presidents, with the very best of intentions, just happen to suck at foreign policy. I think Obama looks to be going that route.

His election was greeted with world wide acclaim and liberal governments in Europe were ecstatic that they had an administration more in line with their political beliefs.

Not so much now. I'm not saying all liberals are terrible at foreign policy or that all conservatives are great at it. Some Presidents, no matter their personal political beliefs, just stink on ice when it comes to foreign policy.

Obama is like the classic "read and react" defense in football. He waits to see how issues develop and generally is most comfortable letting the other side set the pace. Which is a problem when America and the world look for bold leadership to set a clear path in times of international crisis.

Holy crap that ignorant. The O2 sensor tells the fuel injector how much fuel the motor needs.

Two things:

1) Do you honestly believe that the latest boogeyman has had the time or the infrastructure to be able to sell oil on the black market?
2) Even if it did, who controls ISIS? Hint: That's where those profits would be going.

ISIS is about getting into Syria to protect the Petro Dollar and bring them in line with the international banking cabal.

It's about money....It's ALWAYS about money.

(1) Yes they are, their stated goals have said so and their mission statement is to kill all infidels or convert them. It's really unbelievable to me that this is not plain as day to everyone.

(2) Are you kidding ? We can't lock down the border and prevent democratic voters from coming in. On the real side, GWB would have went after and destroyed these bastards if not for the left wing nut jobs and the news media/dems propaganda arm hadn't of attacked him daily with false information, basically traitors. Just because the media repeats something daily doesn't mean you have to buy it.

(3) I think Obama's goal was a calphate state from the beginning, why else destabilize Libya, Egypt and try to put in the Muslim Brotherhood ? A terrorist organization that gave birth to both Hezbollah and the Palestinian terror group Hamas. His strategy of no boots on the ground will not work, he knows this, so a few bombs and in a while he hopes America will lose interest in the matter.

(4) If we don't wipe out these crazy bastards now, they will continue to grow their territory, and eventually will find a way to nuke the western world.

Yes. They are likely making over $3 million per day selling oil

LINK

This is what boggles my mind about ISIS. They had taken large swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria. They were generating tons of $. Everybody was leaving them alone (war weary U.S. and western allies - also Russia/Ukraine distraction) and they appeared to be well on their way to establishing a caliphate - which was their stated goal.

Then they start beheading people (which would seem to be an effort to goad us in to going to war with them). They had to know we would just immediately eliminate their revenue streams (oil) and put them in a position of defending their territory (which is hard b/c they can't blend in with population like they do when on offensive).

It makes no sense. Some say it's for recruiting. It seems like you could be more effective at recruiting with $3 million per day (operating in relative peace) as opposed to beheading people and living in caves and getting shot at constantly.

I'm posting theories that back the statement, "It's about money. It's always about money."

Now help me out here, which poster originally made this statement on this board?

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
