Well, I'm a bleeding heart liberal by this board's standards and I think it's very sad and awful what New Orleans is doing. Trying to erase history is not going to do anyone any good JMO.

And for the record the attitude you just displayed is precisely why New Orleans got passed the frick up by Houston, Atlanta and several other southern cities. Trash? Yea there's a lot of that where you're from bro.
we're trying to strike a balance between honoring our history and moving New Orleans forward into the 21st century.

No, I think the city is gonna look awesome once every bit of arguably offensive items are removed. Like a mix of current day Chernobyl and Jazzland. I can't wait to see all of the overcolorized pics.

If most of you clowns had a clue about who Beauregard was and what he stood for you'd be appauled at the removal of this statue.

I agree. And of course a number of the Founding Fathers were guilty of the same sin
New Orleans already changed the name of a school that was named after Washington.

It's got nothing to do with racism or slavery. It's leftist destruction of American history. This is just the first step. The Founding Fathers are absolutely next, and when some younger, more charismatic Bernie gets elected, it will be open season on everything.

And of course, their idols like Lenin and Stalin, mass murderers of millions, are still worshipped by them, their crimes said to have been necessary to bring about the "utopia."

I consider myself in the middle of the pack. In my opinion, removing these statues is a blasphemy. Kinda like erasing history.

I grew up with all those statues. I remember a Confederate Uniform in my Great Grandfathers Foyer in his old style New Orleans home, that he and my Great Grandmother, both Immigrants from the Ukraine, White Russian Jews, had turned that home into a boarding house for Tulane Students as it was only 3 blocks from Tulane.

I am mad as hell about the removal.

They are artwork and have been standing long enough to be part of the city's history - not represent part of the city's history, actually part of it themselves.

In these regards, how dare anyone think they are their's to do with as they please?

Maybe your mayor could replace the memorial statues of a time 150+ years ago with a bronze plaque listing all of the reasons for the civil war from varying perspectives. That way, all sides would have an equal shot at liberty in a historical context.

I'll start the plaque wording for Mitch...This CIVIL WAR plaque placed here following the removal of an original Jefferson Davis' memorial statue due to it's perceived perpetuity need for safe space by some, thus providing a means of shielding themselves from history. In it's place this plaque attempts to provide the viewer with a historical recount of the causes both human and economic that led to the casualties of as well as the truth and distortions of the civil war of 1860-1864, an American tragedy.

You can take it from there.

There were no issues with these statues until Mitch Landrieu manufactured one. This was purely a diversionary tactic for Mitch's ineptness in repairing deplorable streets & underground infrastructure, high crime/undermanned police staff and attracting new companies to move to N.O. Tourism is still the golden egg for this city but tourism doesn't equate to high paying salaries.

This and this alone is his legacy as he plans for his next political office.

If New Orleans had a statue of Charles Lutz (free Black man that fought for The Confederacy) would Mitch demand it be torn down as well?
I wonder if Mitch even knows the Beauregard background?

You should also mention in your admiration of Butler that he and his brother "Commisary" Butler used his power to seize cotton and sell it to New England textile factories. The problem is, THEY kept the money and ran a huge crime ring. As for the poor freed slaves, he put them on plantations controlled by the Union and forced them to work for him. His agents freely travelled up river to Confederate held territory to seize or buy if need be cotton at a fraction of its value to be re-sold for huge profits. Some saints and plenty of sinners on both sides. Try reading a few books and learn more true facts.
