We are the only first world country that does not value the health of it entire citizenry. We have the best research facilities and finest hospitals in the world. Yet we are not the healthiest nation.

Why does any government have to be involved?

Insure for major medical only (>$5,000) and pay as you go under that. Let doctors and hospitals compete. This is supposed to be a capitalistic country.

Health insurance isn't healthcare.

The marxists want to destroy the health insurance market and install single payer . Not sure why anyone doesn't understand it.

Because people, in general, are not smart enough to do anything for themselves.

Yeah. 70% of Americans do not have $1000 in savings.

Lemmings who need help.

Should the 30% save their arse for going through life fat, dumb and stupid.

Well, the founding fathers did write this little known thing called the Constitution which gives Congress pretty broad powers to legislate.

Why should the government be budding in on national defense either? Everyone can take care of themselves? Right?

Politicians want to get elected. No logic, no justification, just buying votes.

Because our congresspeople, the lobbyist and special interest groups have allowed the people of the United States to be plowed by those that they represent.

How could they not be? So an uninsured shows up at an ER before EMTALA in active labor (part of the acronym- active labor) and the ER refuses her admittance and she has to drive across town and dies in route. How does the government not intervene in that?

As all of the grief the FDA gets, there are some good things that they do. They add a tremendous cost to meds but for the most part they are safe. Is our government's role not to keep us safe?

Take the reimbursement side of healthcare out of the equation, there are plenty of things the government does that levels the playing field in many cases. Unfortunately, nothing they do is very efficient.

Medicare is the reason why. We fricked ourselves with medicare and companies providing health insurance.

It should have been every man for himself to start with.

This statement tells me you either have not read the Constitution, or do not comprehend what you read.
