This is just sad, the truth is I would put money that Southern crews have more exp. dealing with down power lines and restoring than anybody. If I was non union I would just get up leave....

Do you think the utility company's pushed for non-union workers to not be allowed to help during a disaster. If indeed the company signed an agreement with the unions to not allow non-union workers, it was due to the unions twisting the utility companys arms.

Like I stated this is a strawman argument. The union is the problem and the union instigated it. They are the only ones to benefit to a rule such as this.

What? there's probably a contract that says union-only.
Plus, if you haven't noticed, there are a shite ton of details missing from this little news story.

Both excuse's are just dumb, it is a disaster area, people are hurting and the union is worried about a contract, screw them, that shite would never happen in the south, we would thank them do everthing we could to help them, not turn them away... Insane, Northerners, you reap what you sow.

Stand in the home of someone in New Jersey without power and argue this.

Unfricking real.

you don't know what the company got in return for a contract provision that says, 'in the event of an emergency where more help is needed, employer agrees to hire only union workers, no matter where from."

Employer might have gotten a concession it really wanted in the context of managing its regular workforce.

My main point is that this might not have been just some thugs telling these crews to frick off.

where there's a union, there's a contract. What does the contract say?

this assumes that that crew was not replaced with a union crew that was en route and various other things that are not discussed in this shitty fricking little article.

None of us know what the contract says, but trying to blame the utilities for the closed shop laws are absurd.

I think that's the issue that everyone has with this. If these private union idiots want to turn away help to secure their union contracts, great. I'm not too sure their customers will be fond of this particular stipulation though....

Unions are worthless everywhere, worked with them overseas, the biggest bunch of crybabies ever, that bama crew would have shown those union crews up, that is the problem, period...

NOt disagreeing with you. I'm far from a union apologist, despite what it might seem here. I am actually a management-side lawyer.

I just don't go for getting myself all hacked off simply on the basis of tihs little article. It's shite journalism.
