Some of the main reasons the CDC is getting tens of millions of dollars for gun violence studies, doctors are encouraged to ask if there are guns in homes, Dr. Associations getting involved in the gun debate.. etc.

Just watched the video Eliot Rodgers produced the day before the shootings. How did this kid's mental illness go unnoticed and untreated by family and friends? This was a sick kid.

Book it, is wasn't "unnoticed". Big time movie producer...sicko kid... why would they want that on the street. Hell, he may be a norm in a lot of those highly narcissistic families.

It didn't go unnoticed. They contacted the police. Unfortunately there is almost no way to intervene with an unstable mental person nowadaya as the medical community is so overprotective and the state governments (and private facilities) are trying to drop taking care of them.

If someone expresses the urge to kill someone, wouldn't you want the psychiatrist to ask him / her if there are any guns in the house?

I've been hunting since I was 10. I am currently well armed. I would never dream of killing anyone, and believe me, I'm pretty damned pissed off right now at about six people. LOL

Being an Aspy has NOTHING to do with this situation. Dude was obviously socially awkward and high-functioning. He was mentally unstable. Being an Aspy was the least of his problems.

I wouldn't want a doctor asking anyone if they owned guns, because they were there with an infected hangnail or spider bite..etc.

You can't say it has "nothing" to do with this. If anything, I think that there may be a case to say that Aspbergers in many cases may be clinically different from autism, instead of the recent change to say they are both the same thing.

I skimmed his manifesto, there was nothing in there discussing any type of diagnosed condition, it was pretty well written. It looks to me his biggest issue was shitty parenting.

I watched him as he outlined his plans and assigned blame for the slaughter on his victims. That was one creepy 22 year old man. His laugh was unsettling to say the least.

Good for the dad calling the cops on the son but he shouldn't have stopped until the kid was committed and drugged. He was clearly psychotic. If he was concerned/fearful enough to call the cops, he should have done more.

There've been several documentaries on this...it's incredibly difficult to have your child committed. The TN congressman that was nearly killed by his crazy son was interviewed about this difficulty on 60 min. The family tried multiple times but were unable to achieve full commitment.

To all this BS about left/right, again this guy was just crazy and the system failed his victims.

Boy / man was lonely, and the reason he was lonely was he actually thought THINGS ( he mentioned his BMW, how his glasses cost 300 bucks etc. etc.) make you better, not realizing that THINGS don't mean shyt. He probably didn't have very good parenting.

You have to watch loners very carefully, seems he loved violent video games.

A loner, lost in a violent video culture, seems to have role played what he saw in one last violent outburst.

Sadly, I agree. One of the first discussions after the shooting was the suggestion that mental health professionals be present when police do these welfare checks.

The right will stupidly play along because it deflects from the debate about guns in general. They correctly see mental health as the bigger issue, but don't seem to see the possibility for rampant gun ownership disqualification.

shite, if they wanted to, the Feds could confiscate the guns of everyone who has bought weed in CO and WA. It's still a federal crime.

Stated this back when it passed. Anyone who states no on a 4473, and then uses their CC at a pot shop, could become a felon under Federal law.

Not getting laid was the cause. California should make it illegal for sorority girls to turn down spoiled rich kids with expensive cars.

Which makes about as much sense as the gun control Greek chorus.

No we're not. We just have no power to do anything until they do. I mean if they make threats we can report it, but the police can't really do shite. At best we can get a 72 hour hold. fricking politicians and lawyers protect them. I pegged a guy several years ago as a sociopath from our interaction during a DOT exam. I reported him to his employer and local sheriff's office. Not shite could be done. Found out later he was suspected in some interstate serial killings. His DNA tied him to numerous murders but since they were prostitutes and an abundance of other DNA present they couldn't make a case. A couple of years ago he got arrested but it didn't stick. Said he was gonna kill his exwife and her new husband when he got out. Louisiana authorities failed to notify them of his release. He drove straight to their house, killed him and kidnapped her. Shot her in the head just before getting gunned down by local LE. But because of "his rights" no one could do shite until then. Had somebody offed him, as many fantasized about in these parts, they'd have gone to jail for sure.

Oh yeah, he "accidently" killed his brother and sister in two separate instances when he was younger.
