I'm more concerned that the mental health community will be given the power to declare who is and is not fit to own a gun. If they expand this power, I expect the list of "conditions" to expand continuously.

No one should say sh!t about what the victims families say just hours of learning of the deaths.

People are not thinking clearly when these things happen for those of you who have been lucky enough not to know it.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was a gun free zone before I click the link.

Have they said where he got the gun? Buy or borrow or stole it?

This. Plus it will prevent, rather than promote, mental health care for many who could use it like vets.

Exactly. People like this should be encouraged to seek help, not discouraged.

I think Chris died because a mentally ill person decided to go on a rampage. Could be wrong though...

ETA: How the frick do you politicize your own son's death within hours of him being killed. I've never been in that situation and hopefully never will be but holy frick.

I think this has been in the works for some time. Have you seen the DSM 5?

May his son RIP, the victim of a mad, murderous bastard also stabbed three and ran over two more with his vehicle. Where's Dad's outrage over cars and knives?

The diagnostic manual for mental illnesses. The newest edition just came out last year. There are something like 8000 (can't remember the exact number) more identified mental illnesses than the previous edition. Everything is a pathology now.

To a certain extent they have this power on an extremely limited basis right now. However, we really should allow temporary seizures of guns at the slightest hint of someone harming others when they have other mental issues.

Just watched the video Eliot Rodgers produced the day before the shootings. How did this kid's mental illness go unnoticed and untreated by family and friends? This was a sick kid.
