or 7 - 5, how many people on here fall off the bandwagon? Does Les start to take heat, even though he's walking on water now?

Despite the blinders a lot of people wear on here, this is likely to be our record at the end of the year.
1. No experience at QB, the most important position on the field.
2. New starters at both CBs, arguably the most impt position on defense.
3. Very tough schedule.
4. Unproven defensive coordinators.
5. Post NC hangover, and loss of some of the best senior leadership any team has ever had (Dorsey, Flynn, Hester, etc.)

Depending on how it plays out, I'd take 8 - 4 with an eye toward building for another run in '09.

Not I. It will be a tough stretch this year, no doubt. But let them fall off, because tickets may be easier to come by next year.

Don't worry about it, won't happen, We drop 3 at the most.
If we happen to drop 4 (which again wont happen, ut for the sake of argument) he still wont catch too much flack.
Do it two or three years, and people may start to talk. Just the nature of LSU football, we expect greatness every year.

The record is not nearly as important as how it was "earned".

If LSU plays well, but inexperience at QB and CB costs us close games against 4 big time opponents and we show improvement throughout the season, then it is acceptable (not happily). If, however, LSU loses because of lining up incorrectly and stupid penalties and lazy execution.....THEN it will cause a huge negative reaction.

One year ago at this time I didn't think we had a chance at the mNCG because we had a new offensive coordinator, new QB, WR and SS, all of whom were first round draft picks and I thought our real chance wouldn't come until 2009 if RP stayed on the team.

I still think next years team can be special, but this team will have some growing pains. I think some will critisize Miles ruthlessley when he losses his first two games and talk about how they were right all along and he's just coaching a good team and not a good coach. But then again, some people are idiots.

I think 9 - 3 would be an outstanding record- probably the top end of what we should expect.

But I agree: Miles wont take heat (at least from realistic fans) for an 8 - 4 year. One anyway.

I see 8-4 as a worst case scenario.

As for whether or not Les takes heat it depends on if there are clear coaching goofs (Kentucky), or if we just get our butts handed to us (Arkansas, UF 06)

Nahh, I'm a fixture. Hell I even went to every home game that Hallman coached. The purple and gold are too deeply entrenched into all of the fibers of my being.

So you agree that Miles will take heat at some point?

I expect 8-4

9-3 is a good season (any thing better is a really good season).

7-5 is disappointing

more than 5 losses is suicide watch

Good point. We cant afford the mistakes this year. Although Carnell was probably good for 50% of the false start penalties we had.

My biggest concern is the defense: will we be able to apply pressure with 2 rookie CBs? Will the co-coordinator thing work? Will the co-coordinators be able to make in-game adjustments?

Tommy Hodson had no experience and LSU won the SEC! J. Russell's High School Team won the State Championship when he was a Freshman!

I figure LSU loses 2 out of the games of Aub, UF, UGA, then drops one more game to another team.

So I say 9-3 is probably where I'd put them this year, but 8-4 or 7-5 is possible

I see a lot more pressure being applied this year. I think Steltz was kept back instead of being sent like Landry. I think Coleman, Taylor and CJ will be bringing a lot more heat and if Clemmons can get in he will come off the edge a lot to ease the pressure on the young corners.
imho.

The coach at LSU takes heat even after wins, so yeah, there will definitely be heat. And with no exp at QB, we will be conservative which is something people love to beat Miles up about.

Say we are 5 - 3 after the Georgia game- I think this board goes into meltdown...

See- even the mention of a possible 8 - 4 record brings out this reaction.

People- you cant go 11-1 and 10-2 every year in the SEC: it aint realistic.

'05 - 11-2
'06 - 11-2
'07 - 12-2

Why not? I like this trend.
