Pounds of shrimp per person?

The old rule for crawfish is 3-5 lbs. per person. But what is the unwritten rule for lbs. per person for shrimp.

I would say same range. remeber you don't lose as much shell weight with shrimp, so more actual in your mouth per pound, so around 3 per person should be right.

depends on how you are cooking them...3 pounds of fried shrimp is a shite load. I would go with 2 and I think you may still have left overs. Are you having side dishes?

I am a big eater and 1 1/2 pounds of boiled shrimp (head on) is all it takes for me with some corn and potatoes

1-1.5. They are very different from crawfish as stated above, though your crawfish count seems low to me.

These are a bunch of Texans, some of whom have never eaten a crawfish.

okay, I understand now.

Do you think they will "peel and eat" a lot of shrimp? That's probably the question in judging the amount, since you're not serving it to "seasoned" peelers.

3lbs would just be glutinous. 1.5LBs is more than enough for the average person.

I do a lot of catering with 1 lb of shrimp its like eating a 12 oz steak. 1.5lbs is a great number if that is all you are serving.

ok, I wasn't thinking right when i said 3 lbs of shrimp. but this baton rouge rasised Texan will out eat all you mofos when it comes to crawfish or shrimp. and i have ate 3 lbs boiled shrimp and still had room for more beer. so take that.

but i am sure ya'll cook em better.

I'm the guy who makes the boiled shrimp at all the family get togethers. One pound per person is enough and you will have leftovers unless your family is morbidly obese.

I bought 3 pounds of large boiled shrimp (no heads). Hubby and I ate maybe 1.5 pounds together. The next night 3 of of ate at still had about 10 shrimp left over. And I didn't think it would be enough for me!
