He's wearing a Santa hat. IS a Christmas movie. His shirt says "Ho Ho Ho" (though can't see it in that shot since he hasn't pulled down the bottom part yet)

Is was released on July 15, 1988. Obvious Christmas movie. Any one heard of Christmas in July.

Eh. The little names game was by far the most believable angle.

The movie had some legitimately clever and on-edge aspects to it, at least partially ruined by the helicopter nonsense.

John McClain's phalange dexterity is rivaled by none.

The shite with the glass in the feet was hard to watch and well-conceived of.

There was also satire directed at the media.

Nah. I can accept the stretching of believability inside the context of a movie's own reality. I just didn't find that part to be either clever or entertaining. It was just stupid.

There was. The entire film was riddled with subtle satire aimed at cliches and stereotypes. The op either didn't recognize this or doesn't like satirical comedy. Die Hard is a comedy/action movie; its intentions were to be over the top. To get real, believable tv, Big Brother may be the better option

And the whole reason they're at Nakatomi Plaza is for the office Christmas party.

Didn't realize that was a prerequisite.

Sorry, guys...Saving Private Ryan is not a "WWII movie" because it was released in 1998 instead of 1942.*

much of it, yes. it's an intentionally tongue in cheek movie. the FBI guys were satirical portrayals. that should've been obvious by the obnoxious moves they made along with their names

It's written from the point of view of a beat cop. pretty much everyone, except the 2 beat cops, the wife of a beat cop and the main bad guy are caricatures. I'm pretty sure it was written by a beat cop that wanted to take shots at all the people he hates

The Bossed
The FBI
Yuppies
The Media
Japanese Corporations

It's literally a movie about a guy trying to get home to his family for Christmas. Def a Christmas movie.

The only bad thing about watching Die Hard now is realizing that the capers in the first two movies are completely predicated on no one having cell phones. In part two, they could have just walked downstairs to a pay phone and called the FAA. No more bargaining chip for the bad guys. Problem solved.

I can recognize it as satire, but I didn't notice any aspect of it that was subtle.

As you yourself said, it was over the top.
