I actually saw it for the first time ever last night. Just one of those movies that fell through the cracks for me for almost 30 years.

I will say that it was much better than I assumed it would be. I'm sure there's a long list of "unrealistic" things we could enumerate here, but the one that stood out to me the most was:

The absolutely comical portrayal of the cowboyishness of the FBI guys. They literally came in with combat choppers, flying low and swooping through the streets with the 2 head guys PERSONALLY manning large firearms in order to "surprise" storm the rooftop!

Am I to take Die Hard as satire?

much of it, yes. it's an intentionally tongue in cheek movie. the FBI guys were satirical portrayals. that should've been obvious by the obnoxious moves they made along with their names

underrated line in the movie:

"Jesus Christ, Powell, he could be a fricking bartender for all we know"

Wrong. One of the best action movies of all time. The only thing up for discussion is if Die Hard counts as a Christmas movie.

Takes place during Christmas time, isn't a Christmas movie.

Love this movie. I watch it on Christmas Eve, every year.
