I'll be driving in from San Antonio and will meet my Dad to watch the game. Should be in town around 5, any suggestions for some place close to the campus that's worth eating at?

Thanks in advance!

Walkons. Close by and the best restaurant in the city.

He was being a jerk. It is close. You will probably enjoy it. It's not the best restaurant in the city.

Despite that, it is a good choice.

edit: "jerk" was too strong. Smart arse.

Yeah, location looks about right, and looking at the menu, the food looks just about right for a pregame quick meal, place doesn't have to be 5 star.

Thanks

Go to Chimes. Walkon's is closest to the park but not the best food.

Biggest thing I can say is try not to get to BR at 5pm... You will be stuck in traffic so long that you may be getting dinner at the Box.

Walkons is fun before games but is in no way great. Crawfish are good there. Some of their burgers are good.

This. Walk-On's is a good environment before the games. Most of the menu is underwhelming, but a couple of the sandwiches and cheese fries and you got a pre-game meal.

Depending on where you're coming from, you might want to give yourself some extra time. After 5:00 it's also probably not going to be easy to get a table.

I live in SA, on the west side, too bad I have to work or I would ask to ride and share the gas.

I would say after 4 you will be sitting on the bridge for 45 minutes. BR traffic is worse than any Texas city including Austin.

I agree that traffic at 5 is a bigger concern than where you're going to be eating, IF you get in early enough to eat after sitting in traffic.

Yep. If you were coming from the east, it wouldn't be a big deal, but you'll be in traffic forever coming from the west.

If it backs up on Thursdays like it does on Fridays, get off at Gross Tete and take the long way. More mileage, but saves 20-30 minutes.

What time does it usually start backing up?

I'm coming in for the game Friday but my schedule is pretty flexible so if I need to be in br by 2 to miss traffic I will.

Starts around 4 usually from my experience.

I take gross tete. Take a left and go about 2 miles to rosedale. Take right and stay on rosedale to LA 1. It parallels the interstate and you can go 60+. Take right on LA 1 and the bridge is a mile ahead of you. On Fridays I avoid about an hour extra traffic by doing this route.

If you actually want to eat something good, have some beers and want to be able to walk to the game afterwards Chimes is the answer.

If you want to be able to walk to the game but are just looking to grab a quick bit and are more focused on drinking and hanging out, walk ons is your answer.
