I'd go with No country for old men as my #1 followed by Gladiator and Braveheart

I didn't watch Braveheart when I was younger, consequently I think it's awful.
No Country is very good. Would probably be my pick.

Unforgiven
Dances With Wolves
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Honorable Mention: The Return of the King
You can probably tell I like epics, westerns, and David Lean

Good choice. Peter O'Toole delivers the best performance of all time in IMHO but the movie as a whole is so long and not particularly re-watchable once you have seen it. In contrast with Return of the King, though I have seen it many times I find it draws me in even when it's on commercial television. But there are a number of movies that have this same draw including:
Ben Hur
Gladiator
Braveheart
Unforgiven
Dances with Wolves
Casablanca
The Silence of the Lambs

Of all of the historical epics I'd put it in the middle of the pack. It's not incredible but I'd watch it every few years.

I'll probably get killed for saying this on this board, but here it goes: An American in Paris is also near the top for me. Singin' in the Rain is better overall, but it didn't win Best Picture. But the finale number in An American in Paris was amazing. I know movies like this are for chicks but damn Gene Kelly can freaking dance.

Favorites:
Godfather
Rocky
The Return of the King
Maybe not "greatest", but will watch all three whenever they are on.
