Braveheart is the movie that got me into movies, so I'm gonna go with that.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King or Braveheart. It is a toss up.

Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia have to be seen on the big screen, or at least a 93" inch TV from about 12 feet away.

Those 2 movies are both well filmed, and well scripted which you do not see much today.

I have seen all the movies posted here and I have seen all the best picture winners since Wings.

The movies I need to see or mostly German 41-45, Italian 28-43, and Polish 1990-today. Poland is starting to make some fine shows and movies.

Russia movies of the last 10 years are getting much better.

Someone else mentioned Bridge Over the River Kwai.

All three had Jack Hawkins in them. Probably the actor that cemented my idea of "The English" growing up. Dude was awesome at playing the by the book English officer. Made a hell of a Roman general too.

Absolutely beautiful and horrifying in every way possible. A true masterpiece, however, I have no desire to watch it again. It mentally drained me.

I'll narrow the field down to best picture winners since I've been alive, and I've seen all of them.

- silence of the lambs
- schindlers list
- no country for old men.
-12 years a slave
(no particular order)

I should however state that while the above four are good films, none of them come anywhere close to my all time favorite. Pretty much every year the academy gets it wrong with the winners and nominees. They have voted a ton of very underwhelming movies winner over the past 30+ years.

Even though I really like this movie I can included on this list.

Shawshank and Pulp fiction both came out the same year and were better movies IMO.

Return of the king for me
