Just don't know if I want to bring my 7 year old to the Prop Stop.
For a kid that age, show him Geocaching. It will get him in the outdoors trying to find hidden boxes/ containers with trinkets in it. All the state pArks, tunics hills etc have them hidden.
As already stated: kayaking and biking are my activities of choice

heh, I joke that Louisiana is a Bass Pro and Cabela's state as opposed to an REI state.
But seriously, there's a LOT to do in Louisiana with the outdoors beside sportsman stuff.
Kayak in Lake Martin
Hike in Indian Bayou
Swim at Tunica Falls.
Camp along the Wild Azalea Trail
Bike the Tammany Trace
Here's a post I put together in 2013 you might like:
Backpacking the Wild Azalea Trail (near Alexandria, La.) - 3 day trip guide
If you're into photography, save up and go on a workshop with C.C. Lockwood.
Check out 50 Hikes In Louisiana ($18 on Amazon)
Pack and Paddle, an outfitter in Lafayette, has a great list of "Where to Go" list to paddle, camp, hike and backpack.
Louisiana Travel keeps a "Things to Do" list divided by activity type.
Or you can try to track down the Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees.
The list goes on and on. Walking Highway 90 doesn't seem, to me, like the best way to "stay in touch with nature" with so many options in Louisiana.

What do you do to stay in touch with nature?
I like to sit out in my backyard while I vape my weed and smoke my pipe tobacco .

Why wouldn't you want to hunt or fish? Fishing is one of the most fun, relaxing, and entertaining things there is IMO.

Because it's boring as frick.

You've obviously never been hog hunting on meth. Nothing boring about it.

I hate the outdoors down here.
Fishing blows. Shooting and driving are my only outdoor experiences. I like being indoors or outside when it's cool out, not 90 and humid

If that and your bearded buddies dressed in Camo gets you all hot and bothered then more power to you.
Hot naked bitches do it for me, but to each thier own.

I hunt and fish but also like all outdoor things. Last year I bought 65 acres in Mississippi and just bought the surrounding 300 acres this week. There is a creek running through it and me and my son have found over 200 arrowheads and spearheads near the creek after big rains.
Just getting out and living outside of this online society and demands of our work is much needed these days.

Getting so hammered that you wake up in a ditch is always an option

As a transplant, I've found it difficult to enjoy the sportsman's paradise without owning the land myself. That kind if sucks having grown up in the west where you could pretty much just do what you want.
