That second picture is awesome -- a tree within a tree!...

re: Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees - Anybody seen one? - npersa1
haha I definitely won't be doing that. But, that is the kinda thing I'd love to go do with someone who knows what they're doing and can show me the ropes. Now, what real value is there in knowing the age of the trees is a whole different conversation. It's just interesting to me and seems li...

re: If a non-hunting or fishing Louisianian.. - npersa1
heh, I joke that Louisiana is a Bass Pro and Cabela's state as opposed to an REI state. But seriously, there's a LOT to do in Louisiana with the outdoors beside sportsman stuff. Kayak [link=(http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g40050-i60380728-Breaux_Bridge_Louisiana.html)]in La...

re: Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees - Anybody seen one? - npersa1
Well that’s pretty cool, Hammertime. Thanks for filling me in. Does that seem like the kinda thing citizens could help with? Like could I be (somewhat easily) trained to take the sample, and then if I’m willing to deal with getting to tree, collect a sample for better minds to test? Or is that a...
I bet there are some really old ones in Caddo Lake, there is so much of that lake (mostly Texas side) that is completely inaccessible, which leads to really old trees.
What makes it inaccessible (I don't know the are at all)? Low water or swampy land? I still need to go see t...
Maybe try asking it?
 I'd love to hear the stories these trees could tell if they could talk. How accurate do you think the ring counting method is? Like, not-at-all accurate, or good-enough-for-a-ballpark-guess accurate? Does the core sample hurt the tree at all? Or ...

re: Artichokes in a crawfish boil - npersa1
I throw a pineapple in almost every boil. Lately I have been pealing it, but leaving the top on. I toss it in when I start the soak, then leave it in the pot while people are eating crawfish. Bring that pineapple out when people are slowing down a little and carve it up on the table. Always a...
If someone had not told me in confidence I'd be willing to openly share. You can't get to it unless the river is high anyway.
Oh that's totally cool. I don't wanna spill y'all's beans or anything. I'd love to someday go see all of them. The GPS coordinates are logged for the ...

re: Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees - Anybody seen one? - npersa1
don't you have to cut a tree to know how old it is?
Well, I'm not a tree-ologist by any means... I'm not sure I have an answer to that, honestly. Counting the rings is the only way I'd know to figure a tree's age. From their website though:
How big are qualifying (200+ ...

AlxTgr — It wasn’t very far off trail. I’d guess about 200 feet since I was going to pee, but my memory could be off here. I’m not sure I could find it again if I hiked the trail again, haha. GREENHEAD22 — I wonder if it might be worth trying to get some of them registered?
How can the...

re: Which Beatle had the most meaningful solo career? - npersa1
In my personal opinion, I'd rank the post-Beatles careers based on the sounds I like as: Harrison McCartney Lennon Starr "[link=(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RuCLQHmFN4)]All Things Must Pass[/link]" is just such a strong album in my mind its hard for the others to compete. ...

re: Artichokes in a crawfish boil - npersa1
Somebody on here was talking about putting a pineapple with the boil a while back... I've done artichokes, but never a pineapple. As far as the veggies go, the artichoke ends up being my least favorite (except for the garlic... I don't like just eat chunks of garlic)....

Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees - Anybody seen one? - npersa1
While hiking on the Wild Azalea Trail near Alexandria two or so years ago, I went off trail for a bathroom break and noticed a small marker on a tree: I got home, Googled it and found:
What is the Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy (LPCL)? ...

re: does goody goody in Houston carry parish brewing? - npersa1
you're in Austin you don't need to be drinking Abita
True. It's just a homesick / taste of home kinda thing. Austin Beerworks has been a favorite here, but it seems like I see a local(ish) brew I haven't tried (or sometimes even seen) in the freezer every time I go to buy beers. ...
I think Bayou Teche has done a good job of this.
Do they distribute in other states? I had no clue... What's your favorite of theirs? I tried a few when I was in Laffy and like them, but I just never picked them up as a go-to. And I'll have to start looking for it in Texas...
Parish doesn't distribute to Texas.
Any idea where they are distributing now? Have both kegs and bottles made it to all the Louisiana markets by now, or any sales outside Louisiana you know of? They really did a great (and what seemed quick) job turning it from a few bars in Laff...
