re: LSU Students & Alumni to March on Capitol next Thursday April 30 @ 12:30 - npersa1
And if publicly funded entities were run like private organizations (fiscally)
So, here we're getting back into the philosophical arguments about the purpose of government. Tuition at private sector, for-profit higher ed institutions is notably higher than at public ones, and the ...

re: Festival foods (JazzFest, Festival International this weekend) - npersa1
Yeah I don't eat much at JF either.
I feel like one year I should do JazzFest with food being my primary focus  I'll usually focus on the music with the food being an added bonus, but I could def roam around splitting meal after meal with a few friends just to sample a bit of...
Arts and humanities are worthless for LSU. It should cut all of those and stick to the meat and potatoes.
I think this is a fair argument, and probably one that needs to at least be on the table amid the financial circumstances, but I also don't think it's an argument you can win...
Start here...Cut the bull shite courses
I don't think that's quite what they mean. They're not saying "you have to take a liberal arts class to fufill the major's requirements" but rather "you might not be able to get into that math/eng prerequisite class this semester that you're ...

One of my favorite parts of festival season is, obviously, the food. I'm heading to Festival International in Louisiana this weekend and plan to eat like a horse. What's your can't miss food suggestions for this weekend's festivals (JazzFest in NO and FIL in Laffy)? And JazzFesters, post som...
They really need to move this festival up one week and not compete with Jazzfest.
I'm not certain here, but I always thought having it the same weekend was pretty intentional -- it lets them pull in artist who can perform at both festivals as well as giving travelers making a Lo...

haha I definitely won't be doing that. But, that is the kinda thing I'd love to go do with someone who knows what they're doing and can show me the ropes. Now, what real value is there in knowing the age of the trees is a whole different conversation. It's just interesting to me and seems li...

heh, I joke that Louisiana is a Bass Pro and Cabela's state as opposed to an REI state. But seriously, there's a LOT to do in Louisiana with the outdoors beside sportsman stuff. Kayak [link=(http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g40050-i60380728-Breaux_Bridge_Louisiana.html)]in La...

re: Louisiana Purchase Cypress Legacy trees - Anybody seen one? - npersa1
Well that’s pretty cool, Hammertime. Thanks for filling me in. Does that seem like the kinda thing citizens could help with? Like could I be (somewhat easily) trained to take the sample, and then if I’m willing to deal with getting to tree, collect a sample for better minds to test? Or is that a...
Maybe try asking it?
 I'd love to hear the stories these trees could tell if they could talk. How accurate do you think the ring counting method is? Like, not-at-all accurate, or good-enough-for-a-ballpark-guess accurate? Does the core sample hurt the tree at all? Or ...
