Or you can get a plastic champage basket and the bottom of a plastic 55 gallon drum.

I wash and rinse mine just to get the mud and bait off of them.

Any differences in taste? Or just a convenience?

Get two of these tubs from Lowes or Home Depot. They nest inside of each other. Drill a bunch of 3/8" holes in the bottom of one tub for drainage, and place it inside the second tub. Dump your sack of crawfish in and fill it up with clean water from the hose pipe. Let them swim around for a while then remove the top bin, thus straining the crawfish, and dump the water in the bottom bin. Repeat several times. Tell your friends how smart you are for thinking of this ingenious system. It is much easier to handle than an ice chest. Profit...

How is that easier than pulling the plug on an ice chest?

The ice chest method still leaves mud behind in the ice chest. I do it with two tubs as described by the previous poster. It works great and you get really clean crawfish.

I put them in a specially made tank like pictured below that circulates clean water and leave them there for 24 hrs.

We use one or two of these:

And fill it with the crawfish and water. Let them soak for a bit and then grab them out by the handful and put them in the basket. Not really a purge though. Just washing them.

I don't see how people can eat crawfish without properly cleaning them first. And by "cleaning" I don't mean just spraying them off. You really have no idea how dirty those suckers are until you give them a thorough cleaning.

I stick something very similar to this, the holes are slightly smaller, in a tub with a water hose in the tub and dump it until the water is clear. Grab the handles and rotate it a lot and toss the bugs around.

Any, myself. If I see a big piece sticking out, I might pull it, but I might not.

Do people take a bag of tails and devein them before using them? I sure don't.

Rinsing them off a few times is just fine. You do realize you're boiling them right?

Yeah, they get cooked in some pretty darn hot water. Also, if you season the water well, you won't taste the poo.

There might be a market for purging solution. Who cares if it works as long as it sells...
