Has Uber jumped the shark, though? I feel like it's had it's 15 minutes. A $40 ride in a Nissan isn't really my thing.

I just downloaded the United app. I asked my cabbie about it on Friday, and he told me he wasn't sure how it worked.

Hell no.
Go to New York, Chicago, etc and use it. Best thing ever. In Chicago it is slightly cheaper most of the time and much more convenient. In NYC its a little more expensive, but its great if you're in neighborhoods late at night where cabs are hard to find.
The biggest thing is it will force cab companies to get their shite together. Put out apps, clean their cabs, hire better drivers, have their credit card machines "work".

The cab system in Houston does it right. They have a great app.

When i come out of a bar and a cab is there i will take it...... if not im not walking to find a cab, im going to my uber app.

I probably would too if the cabs here didn't refuse rides ALL THE TIME. They really brought it on themselves with that.
