Nah... There's a 28 day forecast as well. It's about to fall pretty rapidly:

The 28 day is only good for about 5 since predicting weather is a crap shoot past 5 days.

Even in 2011 after 5 days it always showed a fall

I don't remember it showing a fall. I do remember they kept being wishy washy on a crest and gave themselves a little cushion by setting it a little high..... I'm not saying it's going to drop 20 ft, like they are, but I think it is going to fall back into a relatively safe zone. Barring torrential downpours, you can get a pretty decent idea for the next ten days by taking your forecast that affects you the most, Vicksburg for me, and by watching Cairo.

In 2011 I watched it close waiting on stages to fish certain areas on a fall. Noticed at 7 days it would show a fall and then the next Wed update it would change and show rising till the new 7 day mark.

being that we're just a tad bit below flood stage in BR, it could get a bit interesting

Company man that runs a log mill here in Natchez right on the river claims they get a Corp of engineers report every month, and has the crest at 57ft on Jan 13, 2016

That was the talk around lunch today. Don't know if there's any truth behind that. The guy telling us text the man and the man replied 57ft by Jan 13

Nope.

28-day forecast is published once/week (on Wednesdays). The forecast that was published on December 23rd doesn't take into account all the rain that has fallen in the Ohio & Upper Mississippi River basins over the past three days.

The 5-day forecast is published every day. The crest forecast on the 5-day forecast dated today shows the river stage @ BR to be 43.0 on January 18th.

The 28 day forecast only includes projected rain within the next 48 hours. So, if it is going to rain in the Midwest 3 days out that is not included. The drop will keep getting pushed out if fronts keep coming through.

All they can do is factor in the precipitation forecasted for the next 48 hours. That projection is based on water in the system already. Any additional rain will only prolong the flood event or make it worse. If you have anything along the river that will be impacted by a flood event I'd get it out now. The good thing is crawfish prices will for sure go down with all this warm weather and high water.

The post it for the marine traffic going all the way up river. The 28 day shows how low the water may possibly get not how high. That's what the five day is for. The 28 day only post once a week.

It takes 10 days for the water to get from Cairo to New Orleans.
