If you click the link, it is the total amount they made for that year. So yes, it would include OT and diff pay.

No, you dumbass, the link he posted shows the avg annual pay for a Nurse in LA is 60k, which is where the $28/hr comes from. That 60k included all of the money the nurses made throughout the year which includes weekends, holidays, and nights. Therefore, there base is actually lower than that $28

But not every nurse works weekends or nights. Usually there are only 4 paid holidays, and you are required to work 1.

Some only work weekday day shift that has no shift diffs.

Alot do, more than those that dont. So if the average total annual pay is 60k, or $28/hr, I would say $23-$25 is the average base pay. You get it now?

Maybe in Louisiana, but that's not true everywhere.

I work m-th...no OT, no weekends and no holidays. I don't get paged regarding pts once I clock out. I have a fully funded pension, free healthcare for my whole family, 403B and 457 plans, 10 paid holidays a year, and a kick arse pto/sick accrual. My quality of life as an RN would at minimum be as good as a PA. To top it off I haven't wiped arse in years. Not all RN jobs are created equal.

So basically, the providers above you making the medical decisions and taking on more liability have a worse financial/QOL situation than the nurses? That doesn't make much sense. But more power to you.

The amount of money someone in healthcare can make, call time, PTO, CME reimbursements, etc are ALL dependent on what field you work in, who you work for and whether you work in the private, public, government, etc. sector. Chose the private sector(derm if you can).

Weird...just another reason to stay in Louisiana. PAs don't traditionally do great here but I have found a niche that works for me.

California has a HUGE nursing union presence. They don't like the way they are treated....they strike over it.

Odinson, again sir, not here. I out earn a PA here by 75k or more. It is an excellent field full of great practitioners but it does not pan out that way everywhere. Therefore if you are considering education for a career change, RN in some areas earn more for less education costs. This is not a dick measuring contest.....this is a commentary on simple economics.

So you make $175k a year only working 36 hours a week?

NP>PA

I'd agree with this ... I just see it as NPs have been through a lot of practical experience prior to NP school. PAs might be smart and have the training BUT I just can't see how they have the hands on experience that seasoned nurses do when they become NPs. Just my point of view.

if nurses are making that much out there I don't see how PA's aren't starting at $80k and with experience well over $100k.

Maybe in family practice. Throw them in a specialty especially in the OR they will not compare.

There are advantages to both.

NPs have more nursing experience but schooling is strange and mostly online. Lots of papers instead of didactic learning. Not many clinical hours or classroom learning. Schooling is less expensive. Majority of NPs I've worked with are great

PAs have class like shorter med school and must attend. Then at least one full year of clinicals. More rigorous and close to med school. But not all PAs are great

I love my career. Being a PA is awesome. Was a great choice for me. I would recommend it to anyone who is considering it and is qualified
