Yeah really grinds my gears when I see a kid born with a disability that he had no control over, be given something like a letter and told he's just like the other high schoolers with their letters for participating.
Tell the kid his place!!

The fact that most of the guys whining about the kid getting a letter, have some sort of sports themed user pic or name...

Typical mellinial answer. Everybody gets a trophy! This is on the mother. She should not have just bought it and put it on his jacket. You may say it's no big deal, but it's a big deal to the students who actually earned it. I feel for the kid I really do. However, the mom is a shitty parent for not approaching this in the correct manner, meaning talk to the school. Also, if she did talk to the school and they told her no, she is an even worse parent.
Dude, the kid has downs fricking syndrome, it's not like they are giving letters willy nilly so some lanky unathletic water boy. Or some lazy potato chip eating fatass. Some of you are heartless bastards.

I find it interesting that I've seen two posters that are/were cops think the kid needs to give up the letter.

It's not a Congressional Medal of Honor, it's a stupid letter from high school. Who cares ? Tell the school to pound sand and let the kid where what he wants.
Smart educators would have used the perceived privilege to motivate the kid to new levels of achievement in the classroom.

It's a letter earned for participating in a varsity sport for the school. This was an extracurricular program, just like lettering in spanish club.
Overall IDGAS one way or the other..in the grand scheme of life who does or doesn't have a letter is so insignificant it doesn't even register. I'm just playing devils advocate a bit.

The strict adherence to meaningless rules in the grand scheme of things outweighs some people's humanity and compassion. It's pretty hilarious.

So hypothetically, if the captain of the basketball team gives his lettermans jacket to his cheerleader girlfriend because she's cold, or these same whiners going to bitch then?

No, just like nobody would bitch if that same captain gave his jacket to the student in question..

lol at people in here acting like "the letter must be earned". It's a fricking HS varsity letter, not some prestigious rhodes-scholarship type honor. If it makes the kid happy to wear it, then so be it, let him have his moment. The people against something like this are probably the peaked in HS guys who still talk about their high school sport playing days.

I just believe you earn some things in life. Heartless? Yes, that's life (well before SJW's and Opera's took over the nation). Give him a reward for something he actually did. Was he the MVP? Most improved? Quite simply he didn't earn a letter.
I think letters are relatively useless but they still stand for an accomplishment for a lot of kids/ some adults.
I'm also speaking as a guy that was the complete opposite of a jock in high school. Debate team, computer games, recreational soccer every other month, community service volunteer. That letter stuff had no relevance to me but I put value in things you earn a lot.

You really should think before you post. Or better yet, just stop posting altogether.
