My buddies old high school baseball coach and environmental science teacher is one of the owners of the World of Beer franchise. Sweet gig. Wonder if one will pop up in Baton Rouge...

I hope not. I think we're probably pushing it here in terms of how many beer places we can sustain. There's another one opening downtown in a few months.

But if they want to put it on Bluebonnet, I won't complain.

B - How could this possible be a bad thing? If you exceed the market capacity, the worst ones will go out of business. The competition will help keep prices low and encourage taprooms to keep their beer lineups fresh and their tap lines clean.

Won't more taprooms also encourage more breweries to bring their beers to Louisiana?

I was pleasantly surprised with the one in Pensacola. I was expecting a ho-hum selection but it was really quite good.

I know I was initially very excited about the Metry location, but now that it's been open for a few months I'm kinda underwhelmed. I keep telling myself that it's Metry and I should temper my expectations, but I guess I just wanted a little bit more.

keep prices low

Hasn't done this. It's one of the more expensive places to grab a beer.

beer lineups fresh

I almost always struggle to find a second beer there.

While I agree to an extent, what we need more of is places with, say, a dozen great taps, rather than another place with 60 mediocre ones. And it seems like all the places now are concentrated in a small area, while most other parts of the city are underserved when it comes to good craft beer selection.

There are only a handful of locations here that I can imagine they would put a WoB, and all of them already seem to have a similar place already nearby.

They have 55 beers on tap, and 300+ in bottles.

Again, not doubting you at all, but you are a maven among mavens.

All but the most mavenest will enjoy the selection. And even better, you can go there with your BMC friends and they will have a good time too (aside from being continuously reprimanded for their poor tastes )

Don't know about other places but in SAV they have good bands on the weekends

There's one that opened in Sugar Land last March or so. Was my first (and only) time trying a Nitro IPA.

Selection seemed decent, though Big Ben's Tavern has been my favorite place in SL to grab a draft beer. Has some quality taps and bottles, but unlike Flying Saucer, can plop a seat right at the bar and get service within seconds.

Grew up there.

Back when it was Sugarland and not Houston. Great little town of 4,000 people but so close to Houston.

I'm sure Walk-Ons will take some sort of hit with this option just down the road.

You won't get any argument from me on that point. My favorite place in Portland has 8 taps, and one of those usually is dedicated to cider. We have places with 60+ taps, but I just don't go to them.

The type of place that has 12 taps will be dedicated to a different type of consumer, though. They won't have the huge crowds and they will cater to people like you, who know and appreciate good beer. I like the crowd in the smaller places, and I get a lot more interaction from the bartenders, and they are a great source of information on new beers coming out and special events coming up. I don't think 60 taps at WOB will drive 4 places out of business that only have 15 taps. I think they attract different crowds.

I know places like WOB usually have a ton of taps and most of them are year-round selections and a more than a few have fixed taps that don't even get rotated out (just slap another keg of Blue Moon on tap 87). Having said that, I would think that having more taprooms would bring in more breweries and increase the overall selection.
