If the kid was a cancer on the team, leaving will be better for everyone. I remember Martin having a great game when Mickey was out. Chemistry is more important than raw talent. Good riddance, if true. He wasn't a go to player that he should have become.
You should be banned for this post. the players love Mickey and you saw it with the Martin and quarterman interviews after the game.

I said
quote:

if true
. If he cleaned out his locker and quit classes, he's a selfish kid. You EVER met the kid? Ever coached the kid?

Good luck to him but won't even be drafted. Why come out? Tired of the college life or just needs money?

I feel like we would often use Simmons at 4 and add another guard. Then hope we get some production from Elbert.

Our depth this year was Mickey, Martin, and Darcy Malone. Next year you would have Victor, Elbert (give the kid some time in the program), Epps, and Malone with Simmons sliding over in certain matchups. If Martin comes back, depth would be better than this year.

Have you?

Then don't throw that out there unless you have something to back it up.

I didn't throw out anything. I simply replied the the OP.

Any player is replaceable. And if you don't understand chemistry in sports, you have a lot to learn. Didn't we beat Arkansas in Arkansas?

Martin's true game will surface without Mickey. I never thought Martin was Carmelo ( like some of you ) but he's a true 4, not a stretch 4. Mickey leaving and playing with better perimeter guys for a year could be helpful to overall development. With development his game can compare to Robert Horry in 3-4 years and become the stretch, it seems he wants to become.

And if you look at the difference in salary for late 1st round to mid first round it does make some sense. It's the difference between sub 1mil numbers and 1.5 mil type numbers.

I understand, but he also loses one year of paid pro ball that he'll never get back. Even if he improves his draft stock next year by coming back, I'm not sure he'd improve it enough to make up for that lost year of earnings. And if he goes now, he's one year closer to his second contract.

Clearly, if a guy comes back and jumps dramatically in the draft, he was wise to come back, but I think Martin will go high enough now that he should go.

You guys are crazy to think he won't play in the nba right away. The team drafting him is for defense only. If he can play a solid 5-8 minutes it's worth it. He will be a bench role player for a good amount of time. His defense and ability to block shots make sure of that.

I see Mickey at this point in the NBA as an Al-Farouq Aminu, that with hard work and dedication could become a Dennis Rodman (Without the N. Korea connection.)

The OP never mentioned anything about him being a cancer. You on the other hand brought up Martin supposedly playing better with out him as possible effect.

quote:

No one is debating that team chemistry is important, just the idea that he may be a cancer in the locker room

Martin still in school and participating. We shall see.

You could tell down the stretch of the season that Martin really cares. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he's back because he knows what could be next season. Mickey's been mentally gone for about a month and a half now and they blamed it on iron deficiencies.

The number I gave was per year. So for rookie contracts that would be 1 less year of 1mil money to make an extra 1.5 mil. Still, it all comes down to if he wants to cement himself as an LSU great.

Tyrus Thomas and Stromile Swift agree with this, the kid will be on an NBA roster for at least a decade a more, just like them.

Hypothetical:

If I said you can quit school today and make $50k for the next 3 years vs. staying in school 1 more year and making $100k the 3 years after that which would you think is the better deal?
