Every year, my dad and I go to Florida for Spring Training. This year we're staying in the Tampa area. Any restaurant recommendations?

It doesn't appear that Tampa has a "best of" list like many cities do.

You must try West Tampa Sandwich Shop (Cuban food) and tour the nearby Cigar City Brewing. Bern's Steakhouse for fine dining.

Get a pressed Cuban. The Columbia is also a good place. Agree with Burns for fine dining.

I dined at the Columbia location in the Ybor City part of town about 3 weeks ago. It was very good.

arco-iris is great for cuban food. I also highly recommend ella's american folk art cafe. Never go wrong with Bern's either.

For trendy farm to table stuff try The Refinery, Ella's or Datz.

Other good choices...

Chinese - Yummy House off Waters
Argentinian - El Puerto
Cuban - West Tampa Sandwich Shop
Spanish - Columbia
Deli - Wrights
Steak - Berns or Charley's

Beer - Cigar City Brewing, Angry Chair Brewing, Cigar City Cider & Mead

Your list is good. I can't believe you didn't list the Fly Bar.

I go to Bern's every year.
Don't eat too much downstairs. Upstairs is the dessert dining "room".
Bring some extra pocket change & splurge a little on wine, they have ridiculously low markups on an insane list.
Ask for Lee as your waiter, tell him I said hi!

I'm sure there will be an afternoon game, but on Twiggs St. every Friday during lunch time they have some awesome stands and food trucks, just outside the Jerk Hut's restaurant (tasty Jamaican food) if you need to look up the location.

Another fun option is to head to Ybor City for late night entertainment. New World Brewery has some great beer (Florida features Bell's beer!)with good live music, and Samurai Blue is a decent sushi place that's open very late (1:45 on weekends last time I was there).

Thank you, gents. Sounds like Berns and Columbia are musts.

We tried the Refinery while passing through 2 years ago and my dad was not impressed with the "weird" menu and small venue. He's nearly 75 and prefers Longhorn to almost anything.
