What about the Horn Frogs Kevin White?

The matchup of the Kevin White's was a good battle during the TCU/WVU game this past season.

If we can hoard more picks, I'd be fine with moving back 2-3.

In 2012, Seattle traded #12 to Philly for
#15 (1st round), #114 (4th round), and #172 (6th round).

In 2011, Washington traded #10 to Jacksonville for #16 (1st round) and #49 (2nd round).

Chargers could be desperate for a receiver if Cooper is available and he's their guy. Could end up netting us 16th and 83rd (3rd round).

Trade the 83rd to move up from 31 to lower 20s-mid 20s.

I'd love him in the late 3rd. Would be stupid to not take him if he makes it to the 4th.

Another smart guy (degree in hand) that got TONS of experience his Jr year because people were throwing everywhere Jason Verrett wasn't.

Worried we won't look at an undersized guy, though. Would love him as our nickel corner.

If we didn't have Byrd back there - I'd say give Chris Hackett a look as well.

ETA:

White and particularly Carter and Hunter are fantastic locker room guys.

Both White and Carter got a lot of praise for their All-Star Games and weeks of practice. Kevin White is a sponge for knowledge.

I agree. The kid is tough as nails though. He went toe to toe with the other Kevin White even while being overmatched size & speed wise. He showed me a lot that game. He's a scrappy SOB. We definitely could use a slot corner who has balls & isn't afraid to mix it up. Both Corey White & Patrick Robinson were soft & played the position scared.

This is always a plus. Maybe he will be someone to look out for in the later rounds.

I think if him and Collins are both on the board at 13 its gonna be tough for them to decide

Yeah they're both solid players. I think at 13 tho I'd rather get Dupree if he's still available. I love Collins as a prospect, but there are plenty of solid guards to be had later like Cann, Tomlinson, Marpet or Tre Jackson. The same can't be said for an EDGE like Dupree, especially one as versatile as him.

Maybe we should put them up against each other in a one on one drill, winner take all.

hey i'd be down for this. It'd make one hell of a show.

I wouldn't mind White with pick 78 if he's still available and we haven't already taken a CB.

Also like yurintroubl said, I'm very excited for TCU's pro day. I'm still high on Dawson and would love him at 44. I've said it before and i'll say it again, I think he'll rectify himself from his combine. Just hopefully not too much to where he slides back into that late-first, early-second range.

Path to the Draft: The New Orleans Saints Edition Collins vs Dupree

Actually, it happened already. La'el had a few problems with Dupree's speed off the edge in pass pro during the LSU/Kentucky game from this past season. Collins mauled Dupree in the run game & had him worn down by the 2nd half.

I think that highlight's Collins' strengths tho too. Mauler in the run game, adequate enough in pass pro.

Pretty much. That's why guard is a much better position for him moving forward. He has issues moving his feet against speed rushers. He's much better suited for the phone booth style of pass blocking that comes with playing guard. In the run game, it would allow him to be the monster he is. Defenders will have nightmares of seeing him pull as a lead blocker.

Yeah I agree, I just really believe Collins is really filling two needs for us, an awesome guard for now and an replacement for Strief a few years down the road. So to me the better plan is take Collins at 13 and a gaurd later in the draft to move into a starting spot once Strief retires or leaves and Collins moves over.JMHO.

But I wouldnt be mad if they took Dupree at 13

I agree with that as well. Collins biggest assets are his run blocking & his versatility. The versatility is a huge plus that can pay dividends immediately & down the road. As you mentioned he could very well become a possible replacement of Strief down the line at right tackle.

I like Dupree as well. The only thing that worries me is that he had a habit of disappearing at times. The question with that becomes one, did he take plays off or two, did opposing offenses adjust their protections & blocking schemes to prevent him making plays? It's not like Kentucky was loaded with play makers on defense so taking Dupree out of the game wouldn't be too hard to do scheme wise.

I've got to think these pre-draft interviews at the combine are primarily used to finish incomplete scouting reports and are not a true barometer of interest.

The Saints are far too secretive with their list of valued prospects to prematurely show their hand via public-knowledge pre-draft interviews.

This who the Saints interviewed at the combine last year in 2014:

Walt Aikens, DB, Liberty (SR)
Ricardo Allen, CB, Purdue (EW)
Jeremiah Attaochu, LB, Georgia Tech (SR)
Carrington Byndom, CB, Texas (EW)
Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers Saints UDFA
Aaron Colvin, DB, Oklahoma (PRI)
Alden Darby, S, Arizona State (EW)
Chris Davis, DB, Auburn (SR)
Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood (PRI)
Ahmad Dixon, DB, Baylor (SR)
Chase Dixon, TE, Central Arkansas (PRI/PRO)
Dakota Dozier, G, Furman (EW)
Shaquelle Evans, WR, UCLA (SR)
David Fales, QB, San Jose State (SR)
Dillon Farrell, C, New Mexico (EW)
Anthony Fera, K , Texas (EW)
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa (SR)
Timothy Flanders, RB, Sam Houston State Saints UDFA
Dee Ford, DL, Auburn (INT) (COM)
Justin Gilbert, DB, Oklahoma State (PRI)
Demetri Goodson, DB, Baylor (PRO)
Ryan Grant, WR, Tulane (SR)
Rob Herron, WR, Wyoming (PRI)
Adrian Hubbard, LB, Alabama (COM)
Bennett Jackson, CB, Notre Dame (EW)
Gabe Jackson, OL, Mississippi State (SR)
Stanley Jean-Baptiste, DB, Nebraska Saints #2 PICK who should've been an UDFA
DaQuan Jones, DL, Penn State (SR)
Devon Kennard, LB, USC (EW)
Tyler Larsen, OL, Utah State (SR)
Demarcus Lawrence, LB, Boise State (PRI)
Marqise Lee, WR, USC (PRI)
Marcus Martin, OL, USC (PRI)
Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt (SR)
Zach Mettenberger, QB, LSU (COM)
Keith McGill, DB, Utah (SR)
Stephen Morris, QB, Miami (SR)
Morgan Moses, OL, Virginia (PRI)
Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia (INT)
Kevin Pamphile, OL, Purdue (PRI)
Jacob Pedersen, TE, Wisconsin (SR)
Calvin Pryor, DB, Louisville (PRI)
Cyril Richardson, OL, Baylor (SR)
Bradley Roby, DB, Ohio State (PRI)
Alvin Scioneaux, LB, Wofford (PRO)
Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State (COM)
Telvin Smith, LB, Florida State (PRO)
Dez Southward, DB, Wisconsin (SR)
James Stone, C, Tennessee (EW)
Bryan Stork%, OL, Florida State (PRI) (SR)
Lorenzo Taliaferro, RB, Coastal Carolina (SR)
Brandon Thomas, OL, Clemson (PRO)
Billy Turner, OL, North Dakota State (SR)
Trai Turner, OL, LSU (PRO)
John Urschel, G, Penn State (EW)
Brock Vereen, S, Minnesota (EW)
Josh Walker, G, Middle Tennessee State (PRI)
Jimmie Ward%, DB, Northern Illinois (PRI) (SR)
L'damian Washington, WR, Missouri (PRO)
James White, RB, Wisconsin (SR)

This who the Saints interviewed at the combine in 2013:

Josh Boyd, DL, Mississippi State (EW)
Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall (SR)
Tyrone Goard, WR, Eastern Kentucky (EW)
Zaviar Gooden, LB, Missouri (SR)
Cory Grissom, DL, South Florida (SR)
Demontre Hurst, CB, Oklahoma (EW)
Zach Line, RB, SMU (EW)
TJ McDonald, DB, USC (SR)
Bradley McDougald, S, Kansas (EW)
Leon McFadden, DB, San Diego State (SR)
Aaron Mellette, WR, Elon (SR)
Christine Michael, RB, Texas A&M (EW) (VINT)
Chris Pantale, TE, Boston College (EW)
Trent Steelman, WR, Army (EW)
Cooper Taylor, S, Richmond (EW)
Chase Thomas, LB, Stanford Saints UDFA
Brandon Williams, DL, Missouri Southern (SR)
Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor (SR)
Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas (SR)

With that said, I hope you are right about the Saints zeroing in on Dupree or Collins with the multiple interviews. I like them both!

But if the Saints have shown anything in the recent past is we can't look at the combine, or even pro days for that matter (UGA Jarvis Jenkins, LSU's Tyrann Mathieu, Eric Reid, etc..), as a true barometer of interest, more of a back up plan.

So it'll probably be someone who they barely had any contact with, if any at all. So to me, it's still looking like OG Brandon Scherff.

Dupre has more upside but Collins is more of a sure thing. Plus Collins could start right away at OG then transition to RT in a couple of years.

FWIW - I HATE Baylor... But their LB Bryce Hagar would be a fantastic pick in the 4th or 5th round. Gimmee a sec and I'll get you stats and measurables.
