FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Fort Worth woman is celebrating her 104th year of life. “Well at 103 I didn’t think I’d make it, but I’m still perking along.”

At 104 years old, Elizabeth Sullivan says she doesn’t need the advice of real doctors. So she keeps another doctor close by.

“People try to give me coffee for breakfast. Well, I’d rather have a Dr. Pepper.” Sullivan fell in love with the soft drink’s trademark “23 flavors” when she was in her 60’s. “I started drinking them about 40 years ago. Three a day. Every doctor that sees me says they’ll kill you, but they die and I don’t. So there must be a mistake somewhere.”

For her birthday she got a very big surprise. A beautiful cake shaped like what else, Dr. Pepper.

Commenting on her special day she said, “When you live to be 104 and still can talk to nice people, you deserve some Dr. Pepper, but I never expected this.”

She even got a gift basket straight from the CEO of Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Larry Young.

Sullivan is well known in the Fort Worth community. She taught math at Paschal High School for 15 years. Tutored football players for free. Today she’s thinking more about what and who she’s thankful for.

“Man I’m feeling good. I’m glad I’m still here. I’m glad I’m not in a rest home. Glad I can read books and watch TV and have people come by and say hello.”

She was asked if she has a secret for living past 100. She said she really doesn’t, other than, “you just keep living”.

This is the reporter, not the centenarian

If I ever live that old I'm going to tell these reporters something really strange and bullshite, like that my secret to longevity is eating a pine cone every day.

I know, but I get so annoyed by hearing some modern douche tell every person drinking a coke that they're going to go into cardiac arrest anytime now.

FWIW I certainly don't drink a coke a day, but I'm not sure how to account for the cases of mountain dew I consumed a week during my teenage years.

Past a certain age, it's healthier to have a higher body mass. Perhaps the Dr Peppers are providing extra calories she wouldn't get otherwise.

She hit the genetic lottery,so to speak.

With that being said, I'm going to live forever with the amount of dr.pepper I drink

And genetics?

For all we know, those Dr. Peppers could prevent her from living to 120.

Meh, it doesn't bother me so much. The more we learn the bigger it seems diet plays in cardiovascular disease. Though genetics is probably still the biggest part.

That and the amount of monster I consume to get through med school has probably taken off a nice chunk of years

A Dr. Pepper a day keeps the doctor away.

I'm too lazy to click the link

Does it say what the rest of her diet is like? Does she exercise at all?
