I get that. I've seen parents keep their thumb on their kid the entire time they're in high school. It doesn't usually end well. I've allowed my older son more and more freedom and will do the same with the 15 year old as he proves he can handle it.

The fact that your teenager is to stupid to get the game on his own is alarming to me.

He isn't old enough to drive. I guess he could hitch a ride to his nearest game stop.

Update on my situation. He said he wanted to buy Battlefield on the way to the store. I asked him why not GTAV and he said he'd talked to some friends who told him how bad it was. Either he knew I'd do some research or he honestly had no idea. Either way, after further thought, he came to the conclusion himself.

I hope you enjoy having an extremely effeminate son.

He probably read TD and found out you knew about the sex/violence/rock and roll of it and decided a game is better than no game.

As someone who was a 15 year old boy not too long ago I can tell you with 90% confidence that he bought the game already and it's somewhere in his room. Just a heads up

I was hiding games like that at his age. For me it was the Godfather video game. Hidden in plain sight too.

If her son is the type of teenager who would do that, all she has to do is turn on his game console and look at his list of games or his achievements / trophy list.

If she sees GTA V anywhere in there, then she knows he's lying to her. Then she takes away GTA V AND Battlefield and he learns his lesson.

It would be easy to find if she knows where to look on the console. I'm not saying her son is a bad kid or anything either. I'm just saying I think he bought it from one of his friends at school or something and then put on the "I didn't know how bad it was," when directly asked about the game because in similar situations I did what I wanted when it came to movies, tv, or video games, regardless of what mom or dad said.

How do? Nonenof that stuff disturbed me then. It's actually more likely to disturb me now. A child doesn't really understand all the time what they're seeing. Now reading I might agree with you. I started reading Sikence of the Lambs way too young and my dad was just like "you might not be old enough for that," and I read it anyway. Ugh

If you don't get how it's shitty parenting to introduce your 8 year old to Vice City then I'm not sure what to tell you.

And that parent would earn the label of a huge snooper, and he'd just keep his pot at a friends house.

Why cause that label on something idiotic like this?

I love how it's just a given that all kids are in to weed.

Everyone cheats on their wives/husbands, and we've all probably killed a kitten at some point.

If she can navigate the forums on TD, she can figure this out. And if for some reason she can't, I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would tell her how to access his games list and achievements.

Fair enough. I didn't mean to imply you did.

She's checking out his games list, not reading his personal diary. Besides, she can do this right in front of him or simply ask him to show her his games list. It doesn't have to be done in secret.

I hadn't thought of that. He'll probably also have to hide that dead hooker in his closet at someone else's house.

Maybe I'm too lax,but we let our 16 year old play this game. I just don't buy into the idea that anything in this game is going to change who he is as a person. It's a personal decision and should be based on the maturity of the kid, etc, IMO.

Again, and I feel like some of you aren't even bothering to actually read the thread, no one is saying it will change them as a person. The debate here is should a parent provide it to their child.

Exactly. I've never even considered that it would change him or make him a hardened criminal, etc. As a parent, I've always thought we have to draw a line somewhere. I allow most rated M games, but after reading comments and seeing pics I can't in good conscience provide him with this. And if he hides it, he understands there will be consequences.
