the very first scene uses the word "n****r" like 50 times

I think parents don't give kids enough credit as far as what they're ready to see/hear

I'm not saying crack open a cold one for him, but GTA is just a video game. It's not going to turn him into a killer, gang banger, or socially mal adjusted weirdo

This is the straw man that keeps getting brought up. Does anyone here actually believe this? I can decide my son doesn't get to play the latest GTA game and at the same time know that him playing it won't turn him into psychopath.

I agree with everyone in that GTA V is more visceral.

I guess it depends on how mature your 15 year old is

No but I understand that is the concern with some parents

It really depends. 15 can be both too old and too young

He's asking. I

It's very possible that the story in GTAV deals in darker nastier shite than he has ever seen in his life. In fact there are probably a shitload of 80-year olds that have never seen something that twisted. And you're in control of it. 15 year old kids are fricking dumb and listless and impulsive and hormonal and angsty and impressionable. This is a story that you don't want to leave any lasting impression whatsoever if you're trying to develop a functional person. He's not gonna become a killer or a criminal but you might kill off his last shred of childhood innocence. He hears nasty shite at school, but not a narrative realistic story that's so twisted and deep and dark, because the kids at school aren't that creative.

Again, I would put the maturity level of the story at NC-17. Like a Todd Solondz movie. That shite is fricked up.

This thread makes me realize why the "kids today" are worthless.

This. I don't believe a 15 year old would go beat up a cop, although the OT says that would be a good thing...

What if the kid quotes the game in school and gets in trouble? 15 is still young and often a little immature, depending on the kid, to understand where to draw the line with that type of stuff. Once again, the parent should do what they think it right.

It's not even that really. The overall tone of this game is dark. Take Trevor out of it and I say go nuts. He's just a character that no 15 year old really needs in his life. Hell, no 30 year old needs him for that matter.

That's the kind of stuff I would be worried about, and some 15 year olds are mature enough and some are not

All kids are impressionable, but some are just already influenced by the right people. Some will start repeating lines (and that's why I mentioned the word n$$$$r being used. Definitely don't want little Johnny repeating that

But then you have a lot of parents who are concerned their kid is going to go nuts. Anyone listen to spud McConnell?

If a video games puts a kid over the edge then you've failed as a parent anyway. It's just that no 15 year old should have something that lets you get high, get a bj in the front seat, torture people, etc given to them by their parents.

But it shouldn't be. You get the game when you're at least old enough to buy it yourself.

When I was a kid my parents could give a shite about video games. I could have played any game at all and they would never even watch the screen long enough to see that it's bad. And oddly enough, I never played a single GTA game. Just like anything else, when you tell a kid they can't do something that just makes them want to do it more. Not saying you should let your kid do whatever they want obviously, but at 15 I'd let him play it

He's a lazy arse. Basketball is over and he has way too much time on his hands. I have him helping me cook. Maybe he should go pull weeds, clean baseboards, my car, etc.I wish I had gotten him involved in charity work when he was younger. Our kids are so overly egocentric and selfish these days. Not all, but I see more that way than not.

The kids I knew who were sheltered from shite like GTA when they were 15 where the ones that went the most crazy once they were able to drive and were off to college.

If a kid can't tell the difference between real life and a video game at 15 then I'd be worried about that kid.

Unless the kid is completely shut off from the internet he has probably seen worse shite on the internet then he could see in GTA.
