Chivalry is sexist according to a new study.

sexist POS

quote:

US researchers argue that while women may enjoy being showered with attention, benevolent sexism is 'insidious' and men who are guilty of it see women as incompetent beings who require their 'cherished protection'.
Professor Judith Hall, of Northeastern University in Boston, said: 'Benevolent sexism is like a wolf in sheep's clothing that perpetuates support for gender inequality among women.
'These supposed gestures of good faith may entice women to accept the status quo in society because sexism literally looks welcoming, appealing and harmless.'

Bullcrap.

I have my 7 year old trained to open doors for women. Many years of me and his sister just standing there and waiting for him to remember.

Good. Does this mean we are no longer expected to pay for every goddamn meal and anything we do? Also, we shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars for a dumb ring to get married.

I just don't wanna be sexist is all.

I open doors for everyone, 'cause I'm not a dick. I'll also hold a door open for someone following me if they're close enough behind...if they have a vagina or not. Again...'cause I'm not a dick.

I usually don't play this card, but I really think this is a southern thing. It's never once occurred to me to walk into a place and allow a door to immediately shut behind me if someone is relatively close by. I'm not the fricking door man and I'm not going to stand there all day holding the door open for a trail of people...but I'll certainly hang out for an additional few seconds to not let a door close right as someone's about to reach for it.

This may just be a southern thing, though...

I open/hold the door for pretty much anybody who happens to be behind me.. Just a habit. Often hold it for a sec or two even when nobody is there just in case

Guess I should quit before people start thinking they're special and get offended.

I'm in my mid 30's and have never had any woman say anything other than 'Thank you' when I've held a door open for them. I think by and large this line thinking only exists in the author's (and ones like her) mind.

I held a door open for a younger lady yesterday and got a thank you. That was nice. I've done it plenty of times and not gotten a simple thank you. Like they expected it or deserved it.
