Because his oversight DGAF

If you bring your traffic appeal to court, guess who hears it? Your public servant David Butler. He doesn't have any incentive to bring traffic fine money into the town, right? The entire town banks on people wanting to just pay the fine and not make a huge ordeal out of it. The only way to get out of tickets there is if you are a Woodworth resident (Butler's voters). The cops there know pretty much all the local vehicles so they pay close attention to out of towners. There is also literally nothing going on in Woodworth that necessitates a police force, just let RPSO and LSP handle it. It's all arse backwards.

ETA: there were many a top outs on that long straight stretch of 165 between Alexandria and Woodworth where the highway divides when I was in high school.

Depends on if you support him or not. I know some that vocally oppose him and thats worse than being a passer through.

Yes, all true.

And I truly got off lighter than he intended b/c of a mutual friend who was a Sherrif in another parish that knew him as a State Trooper.

Allowed me to work on a Monday while my wife picked up the vehicle. Showed her the video and said I wasn't man enough to come get my vehicle, when canceling patients would have cost me triple the $1500 fine, not to mention the probable arrest that would have been necessary. Lol

That opinion is on point. That poor lady tried to jump through all their b.s. hoops and they still fricked her over. What a retarded case to appeal. Great job woodworth you tPOS town.

How did she only get 30k? They put her in jail for driving to work. That should be worth a sum of the last two years traffic citations.

I really can't stand driving through there. They are waiting for you the second you get off of 49. Don't go 1 mph over while in Woodworth!

Yup. I don't know how long the officer who made the stop has been there, but the same battle cry was in effect when I used to drive through Woodworth in the mid to late 90's. I was always a MPH under the speed limit at all times. I referred to it as a speed trap that also happened to be a municipality. Woodworth's reputation was notorious throughout central Louisiana...and apparently still is.

Clearly, the 3rd Circuit would have raised it if she had appealed the amount, but her lawyer did not. He probably stipulated to less than $50K to avoid a jury trial.

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 1,080 people, 385 households, and 299 families residing in the town.

Why do they need a municipality to begin with? For a comparison:

quote:

People in Ethel (zip 70730), Louisiana. The 2014 Ethel (zip 70730), LA, population is 3,452. There are 50 people per square mile (population density).

Ethel doesnt have anything and their population is triple that of Woodworth.

Butler is a huge prick. The police chief in Forest Hill isn't too far behind.

I would've sued for more than $30k. I would've taken those mf'ers to the cleaners for my salary for quitting my job, pain and suffering from being scared of cops now, pain and suffering from being in jail, and PTSD.

At a minimum, I would've gone for $100k, but would've probably tried for $250k because Woodworth has absolutely no argument against it

Eta: I've been pulled over damn near everywhere in the state, but for some reason, I never get pulled over in speed trap towns

I've been pulled over there twice and they are always a pain in the arse, even when all of your registration, license and insurance information is correct. The last time was for three miles over the speed limit.

I used to drive through Livonia and Port Barre a few times a week and Washington once every other week. I've got lit up by radar multiple times speeding in all of those towns. I guess I just look like I'm supposed to be there.

It does help to go eat at the local eateries for lunch and breakfast though

When I drive through Washington, I always do the speed limit. I was pulled over here in 2000 doing 80 in a 70 on I-49 and that was an expensive ticket.

I know it's easy to blame the cop, but don't completely. The mayor there is the one behind all this, without a shadow of a doubt. Those who have worked there as cops are instructed to do what this one did. I give the cop some of the blame since he could have chose not to do it. But, all of them are instructed to do so by this mayor. He is the one who should be run from office. It's sad though that the people of that town love him because all the $ he steals for them keeps their taxes low, their garbage picked up, and their asses kissed by the mayor.

As another poster said, this is where the DOJ should be looking, not at cops who really enforce the laws and protect society.

Well said. You took the time to read the article.

I'm not going to say this cop was good, but if this is true:

quote:

Godwin testified that his in-vehicle computer showed her license as being suspended and that he was bound to follow that information.

Then this situation becomes way less and issue with the cop and way more an issue with the Mayor and the State.

Although I 100% believe the cop needs re-training in the basics of what he can and can't do in INITIATING the stop.

But once the stop was in progress, he has to go on what the supposedly up to date info is from the State.

60% of the population is either employed by, or family of employees of the town. I live here, and they swarm around like buzzards. Butler has to pay for Butler Hall, a multi-million dollar town hall he built to house his office and one old lady taking utility payments . . . in a town with ONE red light. He need's ousting, but there is only one way that will ever happen.
