You make a hell of a point. I can't seem to see a difference. It all makes sense now why Miami and New Orleans never played at the same time! Genius observation!!!
Oh wait, I get it. Jarvis Landry is an anagram of Brandin Cooks. You are such a smart individual.
Oh wait, NOW I get it. You're another annoying LSU fan that thinks all LSU players are Gods and the rest of the world is just trying to emulate them.
Or is it all of the above? Math is so tough

Jarvis is not the same player and doesn't have the same ceiling
Edit: this guy wanted us to trade our entire draft for Watkins

Very much disagree. Not that Landry would have been a bad pick or better value, but they are not the same player.
Landry is pure possession receiver and it shows up in his stats. Only 3 catches over 20 yards with a long of 25.
Cooks is way more versatile as he can be a possession receiver, a deep threat, can cross the middle, and can run screens and reverses. Landry cannot do all of those things.

you guys are all dumb. THEY ARE IN FACT THE SAME PLAYER!!!!! Cooks was cloned! or was it Landry that was cloned? Either way, they are one and the same! Now go eat some donuts and call a tax agent, school is no longer in community.

I think Landry's pretty damn awesome right now. I just don't think he has the same elite potential with his lack of burners. He's already very polished.
Wasn't meant as a knock on Landry

Yeah him and Matthews would have been Colston replacements when we were looking for a Sproles/Moore/Meachem replacement. Cooks is filling a lot of shoes. Landry would have filled one.

This is part of the post he made about wanting to trade whatever it takes for Watkins:
He doesn't realize that is what the Saints went after

If we lose again it will be because of a desperate lack of elite talent on the perimeter. We need someone desperately who can take the top off a defense and not just that but force them to respect him every single play

If he wanted a burner we got one of, if not the, best one in the draft. Kid has insane speed.
Landry is not that guy.
Landry is not that guy.

some good discussion. I think few are down on Cooks in any way. More is discussion of other picks or the need issue. The need at CB seemed to grow week by week.
Scanned most of this thread. This stood out-
To be honest, I didn't see much of Payton's offensive genius last year.
Ya know, I caught myself wondering if the league had caught up with his schemes and play calling. His unconventionalness has sometimes become too predictable. A hallmark of Payton when he first arrived was calling something that completely surprised me. Yeah, I'm very used to him now, but still. Last year things weren't clicking- for many assorted reason I spose.

I thought Cooks did pretty good. He had trouble getting going in some of the road games though.
other than the opener @ ATL he definitely wasn't as effective when ever there was a road game.
for whatever reason he did most of his damage at the Super Dome.
I hope this doesn't become a theme for him. Its probably just a coincidence though.
I was cool with the pick (and still am I guess) but I wanted a LB more. When Pittsburgh took Shazier before Mosley even got picked I knew the pipedream was over.
CB was a problem but some of that had to do with Jean-Baptiste hardly even playing. My beef with all of that is that if you view a player as a project then why use a 2nd round pick on him? I mean did he even contribute on special teams? I can get easing him into his role at corner but I thought he was going to do more than what he ended up doing which was hardly anything.
Watching a handful of journeymen play for us at corner towards the end of the year was something else man. I mean what better time for a guy to get his feet wet? We had guys I've never heard before out there getting quality reps that could have been his. I mean they said Baptiste wasn't ready.... I wonder if he had a big confidence problem or something. That's pretty amazing he basically had a redshirt year.
He will already be 25 this April. He needs to get going this year.

Not that I'm disagreeing with your post in any way but I wanted to point out the guys we had at corner were Dixon (an UDFA) and Frederick(who has been with us the past 2-3 years but never made it out of camp).
I was upset they cut Frederick and kept Dixon after preseason because Frederick was far and away our best corner in preseason not named Lewis. He was outplaying even PRob and White.

Blues
I totally agree. I thought the CB class was stacked last draft and Fuller was the guy I wanted most as a potential plug and play guy who had long term potential.
I dont dislike the Cooks pick but I think given the depth at WR last year there was plenty of opportunity to get someone later.
I personally liked Matthews coming out of Vanderbilt.

I still think Matthews could potentially be the third best receiver in this draft.
Totally agree here. He has serious upside and proved he was a valuable pick by Philly.
Great size, athletic, smart and runs good routes. Just didn't had elite speed and played at Vandy

Cooks was misused until the Green Bay game.

I like Landry a lot. Great hands. But Cooks ceiling is ridiculously high. Phenomenal route runner, elite speed and great hands. He was underutilized and Payton know it. If not for an injury he would've have 1000+ all purpose yards in an offense that spreads the ball around as much as anyone.
I loved the pick and I still do. I believe he's going to be a special player.

I thought we reached for Cooks but I like him and can see why we did it. My issue was the Baptiste pick which never made sense.

I love Cooks as a player, don't get me wrong. But considering how loaded the 2014 WR class was, we should have addressed a different need and gotten a WR in the 2nd or 3rd. We could have gotten a WR like: Davante Adams, Cody Lattimer, Jarvis Landry, Dontr Moncrief, Johm Brown, etc in the 2nd or 3rd round on top of getting a 1st rounder at a position of need other than WR.
But don't get me wrong, Cooks is worth the pick, no doubt. But considering how deep the WR class was, we could have taken a different player and then a WR in the mid rounds and would probably be in better shape.
But honestly, if SJB wasn't a waste of a pick and actually was able to contribute, I would be fine with taking Cooks in the 1st. So I really hate the SJB pick, which makes me hate other picks because he didn't contribute at all and was passed up by UDFA.
