Pick up a pair of these and you will be good for 2000+ miles. Best running/walking shoe IMO. They are expensive but worth it.

Trail running: Salomon

Road Running: Brooks

Go to a SPECIALTY running store, not a fricking Foot Locker, and get fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. Get some better insoles too, like Superfeet.

Avoid the major brands like Nike.
bad advice.

Nike's technical shoes like the Pegasus and structure (stability) are both really good. The adidas boost are also really good shoes. It's all just dependant on what works for your foot.

Been wearing Gel Nimbus from Asics for awhile, wear out fast, but nothing better than a new pair IMO.
we just go the new nimbus in at FitRight the other day. Was walking around in them in the store and they feel amazing.

Go get fitted.

This is the only correct answer. There is no best shoe/best shoe type for every runner.

Started in the 70's in Brooks

Switched to these in late 70's

early 80s

late 80's

early 90's

late 90s-early 00's

about 2003

late 00's

earlier this decade

for the last year

(trainer)

(racer)

Lot of miles over the years. I now strike on forefoot and no longer need any type of stability. I was able to transition to this type of strike while using the Brooks Ravenna.

Reebok doesn't make running shoes.
