re: A current all-NBA team would wreck the dream team

Yeah, I just kinda rolled with the thread title

Would love to see Curry or GOATbrook matched up on Magic. Who the F is guarding MJ? Also, the 4/5 has only SLIGHT size issues against Ewing/Malone/Barkley/Robinson.

Putting Giannis on this team is saying Christian Laettner was good enough for the Dream Team. Giannis is not even the best player on the Bucks. Khris Middleton pls

are we going by 90's rules as far as how hard you could foul or were allowed to play defense?
Team defense now is more dynamic than ever before. You can't just hack people for coming in the lane and get away with it like 90s goons.

Anthony Davis says hi.
Steph Curry says hi.
Tim Duncan says hi.
Marc Gasol says "hola."

I just wish the OP didn't post such a head scratching lineup
what would you do with it? Ibaka/DJ/Giannis are certainly questionable choices but I've explained my stance on them and why I like them here.
And it's a no brainer to only have 2 PG's. You could argue CP3 over Russ or steph but no way in hell I would have 3 players who can only play PG, especially when Lebron can play PG at such a high level

The Dream Team was only called that because it was the first time active NBA players were on the Olympic Team. If was far from being a Dream Team though.

Going with only American born players:
PG: Curry, CP3
SG: Harden, Westbrook
SF: LeBron, Durant
PF: AD, Aldridge
C: Boogie, Bosh
I'd probably start Steph, Westbrook, Durant, LeBron, and AD.
2nd favorite lineup: CP3, KD, LeBron, Aldridge, and Boogie
PG: Curry, CP3
SG: Harden, Westbrook
SF: LeBron, Durant
PF: AD, Aldridge
C: Boogie, Bosh
I'd probably start Steph, Westbrook, Durant, LeBron, and AD.

I'm not saying its right or wrong. The NFL is even worse as far as how different it has become.
Some will say its a better game and we have to get with the times. Okay Cool.
just trying to get a read on the style of play in which the game would be played. Just for fun.

Ah ok, my bad. Didn't mean to come off as confrontational
This is always the fundamental parameter that has to be set when comparing players of different eras. The game changes so much, it's hard to get a good read.

Obviously you never saw the "old" players play because if you did you realize how stupid your post was before you hit the submit button.
These debates are usually futile with most of you. You have a tendency to remember players of yesteryear with a certain nostalgia that is ridiculous. Half of you think this thread is comparing overall careers, half of you cherrypick the best years of each player, and then there is PJ.
No one is trying to say that Curry, Westbrook, or CP3 are better PGs than Magic, but you're an idiot if you think that the 1992 version of Magic would do much of anything against those guys today.
An all-NBA team from today would do very well against the 1992 Dream Team. Unfortunately, some of you read that and act like we're discussing:
93-94 David Robinson
89-90 Patrick Ewing
85-86 Larry Bird
91-92 Scottie Pippen
90-91 Michael Jordan
91-92 Clyde Drexler
96-97 Karl Malone
88-89 John Stockton
89-90 Chris Mullin
87-88 Charles Barkley
86-87 Magic Johnson

Try getting that across to the nostalgia freaks on here. Everything was better back in the day. The bigger, stronger, faster players aren't tough enough for that era. Basketball was played at a much higher level then despite the fact that defensive schemes are more sophisticated and developed, and offenses run more efficiently.

The game is just called differently, it doesn't mean the players are soft.
ZBo got suspended from a game 7 in last season's playoffs for something that would have been considered normal for an intense playoff series a decade ago.

It makes it very tiresome to discuss with some of them. It's like they think the game has been in one long continuous decline since then or something

It is two way traffic. The title of this thread claims today's players would crush the dream team. There is no way to know that, and it seems highly unlikely that a team with Jordan, Barkley, Magic, Bird (albeit worn down), etc would get wrecked.

So I'd want a guy like Giannis/Kawhi/PG to give me lineup options and versatility.
I get everything else, I just have no idea why you included Giannis. He has a ridiculous amount of potential, but at his current playing level he doesn't compare to so many other players you could have picked.

Assuming we're peers (I turn 27 this year), we're starting to get to that point where the old school meets the new (in our minds, at least), for lack of a better way of putting it
Have to consciously remind myself to keep some perspective when debates like this come up to avoid the default "back in my day, things were better" trap

The players don't blow the whistles. If LeBron could get physical he could guard all positions with effectiveness. Same thing goes for Westbrook and AD. Imagine how hard it would be to score on a Westbrook Thompson lebron Davis Howard lineup. The dream team could not handle the extreme athletes of today's nba who could guard Davis or Westbrook. The dream team has jordan and that is probably the only advantage the would have

or are we going with the flop city movement and entitled attitude towards officials that help shape today's superstars?
It makes me chuckle that people think the rules would have any real effect on the game. It is absurd to think that today's players wouldn't be able to adjust to the physicality that was allowed back then, just as it is absurd to think that the 1992 team couldn't play within today's rules.
Hell, you could make the case that the 1992 team would be at the biggest disadvantage with the zone-defense allowed in today's game.
