Are vacuum cleaners the final frontier for cordless tech?

I love cordless tech. I am kind of surprised that the cordless vacuum options have pretty much been the same for the last 5+ years. I'm in the market for a vacuum to replace a broom/pan for quick clean up for ~1000 sq ft of hardwood and tile. A cordless would cut time by 75% and I figure that hardwood would be a great entry for a cordless. Are there any good options out there? Is it a bad time to buy cordless because of a breakthrough around the corner?

Cut time by 75%? How much time are you spending dealing with your cord? O_o

I have a cordless Dyson. It rules.

Between corded cleanup, broom+pan, and swiffer... a lot.
Lunchbox, how long does the dyson last? All reviews are 5-15 minutes.

I have a handheld version of it. It's lasted me years, and it's never lost suction power like the old dust busters tend to do quickly. It does only last 10-15 minutes (the battery, in fact, has a digital timer that just shuts off after that amount of time, so there's no gradual reduction in suction power as the battery drains). The 10-15 minutes goes a long way, though, because it's trigger-activated. Meant for spot cleaning. Never been a job too long for it.
The floor version, I don't know. Not for my house with pets and kids. We have a full-blown Dyson upright for the house. Cordless vacs with that kind of power would be nice, but they draw 1,000-1500 watts. To expect a cordless vacuum of that caliber, you'd have to also expect cordless microwaves, window unit ACs, dish washers, convection ovens, etc.

I don't know. It's never taken me more than 10 minutes to do anything.
