It was a banner year for NOPD. Not one, but two cops put on death row. Like Frank, Len Davis was another POS. He had a witness in a police brutality case murdered by a crackhead while the FBI listened in. Their surveillance audio made for an easy conviction.

That was Mark Essex. No death row for him, they shot his arse to pieces on the roof of the hotel.

Over 200 GSWs - one of his first victims was a black police officer.

The lesson here kids is, corrupt department or not, if you declare war on the police, they might declare war on you back.

(And a USMC helicopter came to help, too.)

Frank (and Lacaze), what scum. And she was trying to add a third to the murdered:
quote:

The robbers fled the restaurant, and Frank dropped off Lacaze at a nearby apartment complex, both knowing that there were witnesses left behind. Ironically, Frank heard the 911 call on her portable police radio saying that an officer was down at the Kim Anh restaurant and she returned to the scene as a responding officer. Parking in the rear, Frank entered through the back door of the restaurant and made her way through the kitchen to the dining room, where Chau waited for help at the front door. As Chau bolted through the restaurant's front door to the safety of arriving officers, Frank immediately identified herself as a police officer. Chau told Frank that she knew what she had done and cried to the officers that Frank had committed the crimes.

If my recollection is correct, her accomplice shot the cop working detail (Ronny Williams) and then they killed two of the Vietnamese family members. Two others hid in a walk in cooler and survived.

She was nutty as squirrel shite. There was a bit of a scandal about how she managed to pass the NOPD psychological testing for recruits, but I don't remember if anything came of it.

Here's a hint: she was black.

The wiki page as some more back story on her and Lacaze - even crazier shite. I can't believe anyone on NOPD did anything about the situation with the two. Seemed like people had to have known.

I highly recommend "Killer with a Badge" by Chuck Hustmyre. One of the best true-crime books I've ever read.

I knew about the Essex guy, but the this Antoinette Frank seems like a real vile piece of shite.

She deserves to die scared and alone. I'm surprised it has taken this long to give her the lethal injection.

I can't believe two NOPD officers were sentenced to death for crimes in 1995 alone. I am not sure how they can come back from that. I don't think they truly have.

Edit: why have they not attempted to identify the remains found at her home?

And their hasn't been a more heinous murderer since. If we're going to give the death penalty, why not her?

I forgot about Len Davis; what he did was as bad as Franks.

I don't remember the details, but the generally accepted belief was that it was her missing father. It may not have been pursued further because the state could only execute her once, but I'm not sure.

Also...
IMO, Antoinette Frank was a sociopath, but she was a nut. So maybe she deserves a small modicum of sympathy. On the other hand, Len Davis was a truly evil bastard.

They both were evil incarnate. It was the darkest time in this city's history.

My ex's father was lead detective on the Frank case. He was the 1st to interview Frank after the shite hit the fan - he said she was frighteningly evil. To the core evil. It was a ying/yang deal. She was pure evil and the young cop that was killed was a consensus all around great guy with a young wife at home. Both on the same police force, but drastically different. FWIW he was also there for the hotel sniper. He was NOPD for 30 years I believe...the stories he has are pretty damn interesting.
