Anyone that would had been seriously connected to the mob then or what’s left of it today don’t talk about it much less brag or announce it.

Around 2008 or so, I worked downtown BR at a restaurant that is no longer in business. The restaurant owned a small space on the side of the restaurant, and eventually rented it out to some young guy that claimed to be Carlos Marcellos nephew and that he was going to finance him for a daiquiri shop. THe owner of the restaurant let him start remodeling but the guy was pulling this scam with several other business trying to secure equipment and other shite. Well, he was eventually found out for being a fraud and ran out of town.
That's all I got.
That's all I got.

I think CM must have about 80 nephews in NOLA and Metairie.

That's actually not all that accurate. From what I have read the mafia has made a real resurgence post 9/11 because of the FBI literally exhausting all of its resources on terrorism.
The mafia will never be a force again because so many people squealing on each other. There's no loyalty anymore. Those two things are what kept it rolling and so secretive. It will never be the same again

Agreed.
Really, RICO. Once sentences got to be 20-40 years, Omertà disappeard.

Yea and the young punks that are coming up now don't have a clue how to make money like the old timers used to. Back in the 70's and 80's the Gambino's were making between 250-500 mil annually and had hundreds of made men. Now it's a fraction of that. Not the same anymore and never will be. That's a fact

There was actually an article about this guy in the paper. I briefly googled to see if I could find it but couldn't. If I remember right, it was just a short article in BR Business Report or something. The dude was a f'n joke.

No, but I do know a guy who pretends to be in a 1%er MC in order to impress people on the Internet.
Damn you're a pathetic little dickhead troll. And let's go ahead and add a no good liar and coward on top of that as well.
As for the subject here. I don't know of anyone who's pretended to be a part of the mob. As for mobsters, the closest I've come is back when I was a teen the owner of a pizza joint in my hometown had his home and pizza place raided by the Feds because he allegedly was part of the Mob.

Ive noticed that every Italian claims at least one Uncle or grandfather was in the mob. Its very annoying.

Honestly, that could be the case. The "story" that got out was he was mafia. Now I have no idea if that's really what was going on because I was like 13 yrs old and the only contact I ever had with the guy was seeing him toss pizza dough at his restaurant. Only thing I can say for sure is he made a damn good pizza.

Heroin and cocaine profits fueled a lot of the 70s and 80s growth (even late 60s) - but that also attracted law enforcement's attention - heck, we were probably halfway to legalization of MJ when Reagan took office about the time Miami exploded in violence over cocaine. Then the War on Drugs (tm) began in earnest.
After RICO took down big chunks and started sending people away - there was a decentralization of hard drug networks. SOMEBODY is still making bank as the middleman between heroin and cocaine producers and street level distribution networks, but I just don't think it is as lucrative now, for several reasons:
1. MJ is legal and decriminalized in so many places
2. Meth, largely supplanting cocaine use, particularly crack (both inexpensive stimulants of abuse) is produced in fairly large quantities, domestically, although there is also an import market.
3. The supply interruptions from Afghanistan since the Soviet invasion, Taliban, War on Terror, etc., have damaged the long-term market for heroin, although there are other sources and because of its potency as an addictive drug, it has remained resilient (but not ubiquitous as it once was).
4. Legal prescription use of opiates and benzos, covered by insurance, has knocked the hell out of illicit drug use - and the black/grey market for these drugs as drugs of abuse has exploded. Similar analysis of ADHD drugs for the stimulant fiends.
