They aren't NFL projections. The ideal NFL player is not the ideal college player. See Tebow, Couch, Crouch, Charlie Ward, Manziel, Ingram, Reggie Bush, P Manning, Stafford etc. etc. etc. See a trend?

It's more of a blend of eye for talent, and coaching.

LSU, regardless how others feel, coaches these talents up to some serious potential. They have their guys NFL ready.. Now the QB confidence and coaching has been another story, but hopefully is changing.

That's what I was referring to in my original post. But some pussies monitor this as if it were their job. I'm here to talk football not to have my posts critiqued by some "wanna-be"

you are aware that evaluating an individual in such a capacity is not an exact science, right?

These star ratings are pretty accurate considering the task that they are assigned

and its not just the recruiting sites that "fail" on a regular basis

NFL talent scouts and GMs "fail" regularly too

how many first round busts have there been?

i agree that people put far too much stock in the star gazing, but to say bc of jalen collins, "so much for star ratings" is a bit silly

Espn.

Your insightful knowledge on one player that was highly sought after but poorly rated by the worst rating service is noted..

I stated a fact. There's no argument to be made.

no you stated an anecdote to further one of the worst kinds of strawmen arguments of all time.

First and foremost star ratings for recruits are about how those players project to the NEXT level, ie college, not 2 levels later. Second, there are only 30 or so 5* players each year, but literally 1000's of 3*s and below. It has been shown a billion times that a far higher percentage of 5* succeed in college and are drafted in the first round and overall than any other star level. No where did any one ever say star ratings are 100% accurate predictors of future success nor did anyone ever say that a 3* player can not develop at the college level. Sorry that you suck at math and just live to criticize something you know nothing about.

Mostly everyone got it wrong, not just the star ratings.

Schools don't pay a lot of attention to star ratings. Most didn't think that much of him if 3 schools offered him.

The rating services get it right more often than not. It's not hard to see talent. It's just that it takes some kids longer to mature. Some 5 stars don't grow at all in college. Sometimes 3 stars develop significantly in college. There's really not a good way to measure an athlete's ceiling.

Glad I read this thread. Can add a few more mental midgets to the list that just don't get it.

Jalen Collins is projected as a mid 1st round pick. Coming out of high school, he was rated a 3 star and only got offers from 3 schools. LSU, Ole Miss and Memphis. So much for the star ratings

regardless of all the negativity towards your post, it still points out that Miles and staff are pretty good at evaluating high school talent. They saw, as they often do, that a recruit had a lot of potential and could care less about what the recruiting services thought
