LOL all I remember is that we won both games and they really weren't close. Big O did score most of their points and to his credit his team was a bunch of washed up kiss asses who bent over and took it.

He's always mentioned and should be. He's also one of the biggest assholes you will ever meet. When I was in college I went to the same gym as him in Cincy. The weight room was connected to the bball courts and you had to walk through the courts to get to them. One day he was shooting around and his basketball rolled in front of me when I was walking past. Naturally I just picked it up and threw it back to him. He proceeded to get in my face and scream at me, dropping the f bomb several times. Now I wasn't much of a bball player but could hold my own. So instead of backing down my buddy and I picked up a couple of others and played him and his boys full court, and won. In the process Big O continued his tirade, mostly vs his teammates. I thought that maybe he was just having a bad day, but it turned out it was just the way he was. He was the same a-hole every other time I saw him.

This is amazing

OK, most of you posters are younger and didn't see him play in his prime on TV. I did. A lot. He was unique because he could shoot the 15-20 foot jump shot when the defense was all over him. Why?

He was tall for a guard in those days, he elevated really well, he released the ball from behind his head ...and most importantly...he was physically strong. If you bumped him during his jump shot it had no effect. If you hit him really hard he went to the line and was a good free throw shooter.

Among NBA guards all-time I'd put him in the top 3 easily. Definitely not underrated.

That's the problem with 90% of this board...they have only seen highlights and heard stories...The Big O was a beast....

yep what a dick

I sat next to him at the Final Four in Indy in '97 for the Sat games, six hours. Towards the end of the second game after not bothering him for one second and during a timeout, I pulled out my program and asked him to sign it. He looked me square in the eye and said 'no'. Nothing more, nothing less. I mean Jesus Christ, how hard is it to sign the cover of a program? Would have taken 2 seconds.

Dick.

Oscar averaged a triple double for an entire NBA season.
He is the only person to ever do that.

In his day he was one of the top few players.

Wilt averaged 50 points a game for a season.
Chamberlain is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season, a feat he accomplished nine times.
No one even mentions him.

We shall pick sides.
I pick Wilt, Bill Russell, Rick Barry, Oscar and Pistol Pete.
We will score 100 zillion points and get all the rebounds.

Ok, now you get anyone playing now.

Exactly, and you probably caught him on a good day. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun beating him...twice...even though they were meaningless pickup games.

Why is this guy overlooked when people consider the greatest players?

Averaged a triple double over his first FIVE NBA seasons.

ETA I did the math once on a whim. Over his first five seasons, he averaged 30/10/10.

I like your team but would like to pick Elgin Baylor to replace Rick Barry.

Total domination.

Oscar Robertson was a quicker version of Magic Johnson with a great jump shot.

Best offensive guard to ever play....

including MJ

The better question would be "Why has Oscar Robertson been forgotten?"

Watch his highlights

He is noticeably slow, right hand dominant, can't jump and has a weird one hand hitch in his shot

He was just bigger and stronger than the guards he played against.

Add in the fact that he is a raging a-hole and there is no love lost for that dude
