The Mario that comes with it is fun as hell. The SO and I played the shite out of it.
After that:

New Super Mario Bros U is awesome 2D Mario with simultaneous multiplayer
New Luigi U has the same engine and over world map, but all the levels are new, 99-second timer, and Luigi has different jumping and running physics. I think it's more difficult but just as much awesomeness as NSMBU. Definitely worth it. Probably my favorite game on the system.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze if you want 2D platforming perfection. You'll die a million times but have a lot of fun
NES Remix 1+2 are fricking awesome if you grew up on the NES. Basically minigames of classics that get progressively more difficult and zanier. And it's loaded. You'll get hours of unique twists on classic games

Make sure to register the system and games and take the surveys that go with them on Club Nintendo. (Do the same for any other Nintendo products you have.) The Club Nintendo program is ending in June, so you don't have much time.
You'll earn coins that you can use to get another game for free. If you earn 600 coins you can get "Wonderful 101" which is a Wii U title and one I've heard is really good. (I'm downloading it right now.) Everything else on there is virtual console stuff, but you can grab Super Metroid, Super Mario World, or Earthbound for 200 - 250 coins.
Outside of that, what Breesus said covers a lot of it.
