It is absolutely a sport in that it involves multiple parties competing against each other for a common goal. I don't think that the fact that every match is fixed makes the previous sentence untrue.

It's a bunch of stuntmen following a script filmed in front of a live studio/stadium audience.

That's not a bad way to put it. It's not a true sport, but clearly it takes athleticism to do it.

I've always thought the label of "sports entertainment" was fairly appropriate and fit pretty well.

You just aren't sophisticated enough to appreciate the true value of one of the few modern direct descendants of American vaudeville theater.

Yes. Combination of Sport and Entertainment.

Definitely takes a tremendous athlete to become a good pro wrestler in a legitimate company. That and the wrestlers are almost constantly injured as it is very tough on your body.

In the older days pro wrestling was legit. We are talking frank and Karl gotch, hackenschmidt, Lou thesv etc.

It wasn't until the 80's when it was publicly broadcasted when people doubted the authenticity of it. See dr. Dave Schultz slapping that news reporter.

No, it's always been a goof, bro.

in the older days the matches were more of a worked shoot. which is still common in japan today.

basically the match is fixed but many moves are real.

I forgot to mention farmer burns.

so it hasn't always been a goof or complete goof.

im talking pre ww2 of course.
