It may be acting, but to say these guys aren't athletes is a flat out lie. I'm not a wrestling fan in the least, but these guys take a physical beating over and over again. Was listening to a podcast where they'll often cut their forehead to get the blood flowing to sell some of the big hits like a chair to the face. All of the older wrestlers have scratched up faces. It's nuts and scripted, but it is a physically demanding "activity" that they work really hard for.

The predetermined results are the only thing that really hold it back from being a sport.

You're right, and my post was bad because I didn't mean to denigrate the wrestlers. I like (used to love) wrestling. I should have said they are "acting".

No but many of the moves require some degree of athleticism.

In the older days pro wrestling was legit. We are talking frank and Karl gotch, hackenschmidt, Lou thesv etc.

It wasn't until the 80's when it was publicly broadcasted when people doubted the authenticity of it. See dr. Dave Schultz slapping that news reporter.

These days many wrestlers break away from their character when doing interviews outside of the wwe. Except for the old guys like flair, hogan, iron sheik etc. their character and real self are one in the same.

A lot of what you said can be said about many actors. How many actors have been bruised or broken?

It's not a sport. I'm not trying to put it down, but it's simply entertainment. Good entertainment, but that's it. Outcome is decided ahead of time =\= sport

Not a sport.

I'm not saying that the participants aren't athletic but it's not a sport. It's entertainment.

If MMA is considered a sport then there's no doubt pro wrestling should be considered a sport.
