he entered the NY harbor, and was immediately locked up until he was completely processed and checked out by doctors, etc. At least that's what it showed in Godfather II.

Now people come here on a regular basis, we don't know their names, or whether or not they are healthy or even if they are law abiding citizens.

The open borders people like to trumpet the fact that we are a nation of immigrants, and that somehow tightening borders and checking out these immigrants is un-American. But is that really the case.

Didn't we filter immigrants and enforce the borders as best we could a 100 years or so ago to protect the homeland and to try and insure public health?

Sure we let the Godfather in, but at least we knew he was here.

Interesting point. Yea, it was a movie but do we know that's not really how it happened back in the day?

My great grandparents came in through Ellis Island and described it as being fairly similar to what the OP is talking about.

No it wasn't. Millions of immigrants flowed through Ellis Island.

So if you can't check them all, you give up, open the borders and let everyone in?????

I guess so because it seems like that is what we are doing.

Let's hope none of these people have smallpox (or realistically some other killer disease).

They also didn't allow them to file back taxes for earned income tax credits 100 years ago either...

Mexico has a slightly higher immunization rate than the US does. It hipsters we need to be concerned with.

I never got the part where Danny Aiello chokes out Frank Pentangeli and he says, Michael Corleone says hello."

Was Michael really saying hello, or was that a setup?

And how about that cop? He just starts shooting. Has no idea what's going on, just pulls his revolver because someone starts yelling in the background. Next thing you know, Cicci is taking five shots and two cars in the chest. No dogs around, either.
