Viking River Cruises, a major provider of high-end river cruises on other continents, will make New Orleans the home port for its first North American itineraries, which will travel along the Mississippi River as far north as Minnesota, the company and state officials announced Tuesday.
In 2017, the European company plans to launch two new specially built riverboats from docks near the French Quarter. Plans call for building four more vessels in the first three years, at a price tag of up to $100 million apiece.

I would do it if they have a strip club & good dance club on board.

Only for the fist 130-150 miles. After that very scenic. Seems a bit boring, but it is scenic

Of course. This is the OT.
Seriously though, it seems this company has boats doing this around the world where they stop at great cities, etc.
How many places upriver are going to be great cities for them to stop in and it end up being all that great?

There have been several of these cruises and they have all failed.
This one will be no different.

I saw a barge loaded with RV's cruising on the Tenn-Tombigbee Water Way in MS one day. Kid was shooting hoops on the deck of the barge when it came by. Cruising redneck style.

American cruises is also adding another paddle wheeler. I think there is a market for international travelers. There is always a big American fetish for Asians and Europeans who want an "authentic" American adventure. Stops in New Orleans, Natchez , Vicksburg, Memphis, and St Louis with Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, and historically themed programs.

It would take approx 2-3 weeks to get upriver to minn from New Orleans. Depending on stops, weather and River level.

Yeah I doubt they are targeting ppl that live in Louisiana or the south. I could see foreigners being their main target audience. I wonder if their boats will be nicer than the river boats.

Thanks. Figured it would be at least 2 weeks. Should be interesting to see their itinerary.
