If you think Kobe Bryant is washed up then you don't know what washed up means.

Well, 41 games in two years to return at 37, shooting a career worst .477% TS.
The guy was just chasing records this year until Byron reeled him in. Hasn't been an elite defender in years.
Meanwhile Tim Duncan is the leader for DPOY, and his per 36 #s are pretty damn close to his entire career.
Duncan isn't washed up. Kobe is a shell of himself.
Let's see Kobe stay on the court before we infer he's close the same player he was.

Washed up? Nah. But definitely on the downside of his career.

Saw him today in person. Private Nike event in Los Angeles. He admitted that the thought of rehabbing another 9 months is terrible but said he will give everything he has to come back for next season. So determined. Shoulder comes out of fling Tuesdsy. Said rehab starts Wednesday. Time will tell.

Kobe is looking to put that career missed shots record out of reach!

You're a few years too late with this thread

False. He just needs to realize he's not an alpha dog anymore. If Bryant ever figures that out, he could easily be a championship team's 1st player off the bench. He talked about being a student of the game in the NBATV interview. Time to prove it Kobe. You can either be a marketing ploy or chase 6 and 7 for much less money.

This is one of the biggest mysteries in sports to me. Some superstars transition very well to role players as they age. Some are absolutely horrible at it.

well he already signed the big deal and everyone knew the lakers would suck, so it's not on kobe that he tried to be the alpha
he gets a pass this year. his body is breaking down in front of our eyes, though

True, and he's singlehandedly put the Lakers back five years by hanging around

he's old for a perimeter basketball player.
he's at an age when the next injury will be his last.
If you have to give odds on his ever being on the all star team, its a long shot.
if you have to say, can he be a "piece" on a nice team, sure.
with his contract, he should be "THE MAN". That ship may have sailed.
So...the long downward slide, and if there is a bump in the road, its his last.
He is not worth what they are paying him, and he may never be again. The money people will have to explain what the deal is.
If I could cut him loose, I would. You can get two "good" players for what he is costing them to do nothing.

I think Kobe as much as anyone knows he hasn't got a whole lot of Bball left in him.
He's still very good but his Team isn't going to Win.
He's basically just shooting to add points to his career total.
I don't think that serves as a positive for a Team.

and cashing really big checks. and that is undermining any chance of the team turning it around any time soon.

What? Not absolving the Lakers in any way but Kobe signed that contract. I have nothing against players getting what they can, but that doesn't come without consequences.
And is Kobe washed up?
Let's compare two important records:
Father time: 100 gazillion wins and 0 losses
Those going against father time: yet to win
