what does someones opinion of which player a coach might want? Instead of a stupid thread like this why don't we all get behind and support the players we have and the ones that actually commit to LSU?

IF it was me and Coach Cam talking, i'd ask him WTF happened to our QB situation last year

It was apparent that AJ does not possess all of the tools he need's even though he works hard and trys hard on the playing field. BH was an absolute true freshman who just wasn't ready to be tossed into the fray. Look for Harris to emerge this season and Jennings to be an able back-up. Both are good young men. Franks also has a bright future at LSU. Let Cam do his work and don't ask such dumb questions when the answers were in front of you the entire season.

which one got the first offer after Cameron saw them side by side at camp?

I'll answer for you. It was Franks.

My personal opinion is that when he went to visit both a couple of weeks back, he let both know what his choice was. I think he has a commitment from the QB he:

Franks by a mile. Cam knew who Patterson was well before Franks committed, yet there wasn't a crazy push for him as well. Franks is a perfect QB for his system with a lot of room to grow and develop.

Saying that, I believe LSU or at least Cam felt that they got their QB, and getting a second guy was necessary for depth and competition.

IMO (maybe others don't feel the same), Franks would have surpassed Patterson after a year or two in the system. Both would have been behind Harris for 1 possibly 2 years, and Shea has no upside. Franks can improve on a lot of things from weight and mechanics, to foot speed and decision making. People say he puts too much arc on a lot of his passes. Mett had the same problem for years until Cam fixed it his first year here.

The future of LSU is consistent playoff team, because we have found our QB of the future. A QB that perfectly fits our offense. A QB with 1st round potential and talent in an NFL level scheme.

Depends when we need him by and how much confidence he has in himself to coach up a QB.

Franks is bigger, faster, stronger. Probably has a higher ceiling. That being said idk in his film I don't know if you see him make all the throws he will need to make at the college level. Not saying he can't make them, but his film just shows that he can throw an excellent deep ball with touch. Patterson to me seems like the more college ready QB. In his film you can see him go through progressions and make a ton of different passes.

this isn't said or recongnized nearly enough. seriously.

i know so many have biases that would prevent the thought from even occuring but it's true.

Heard Shea Dixon this morning on the radio. He was VERY high in praise on Patterson...justifiably so. He was also high on Franks.

Here were take-aways for me and some things I did not know:
(1) The Patterson family moved to Shreveport to further Shea's football career and to play with and against better competition (I didn't know that);
(2) His brother has leveraged Shea's prowess into getting a job under Rich Rod at Arizona, Cam at LSU and now Freeze at Ole Miss (I did know that);
(3) LSUs staff pretty much knew that when they got the commitment from Franks that they would not get Patterson (I knew that too);
(4) Patterson is almost a perfect fit for the Freeze Offense (in the gun, high percentage short passes, the ability to escape the pocket, etc...he will be very good in that offense and will have a lot of success - especially with the receiver talent they are amassing);
(5) Franks runs an offense that is very similar to LSU - under center, I-formation, etc. He is a much better fit relative to what LSU does than Patterson - Franks should be comfortable from day one;
(6) Shea insinuated that if Cam and Miles don't get it right with Franks, i.e., he doesn't pan out, that it will end the Miles era.

OP is trying so hard to justify beliefs that Patterson is the better QB.

Nope, not at all. I was just trying to get everyone's opinion on what they thought Cam's true feeling was and not just telling people what they wanted to hear. As for my opinion, they know a whole lot more than me about which one has the most potential. I will trust his judgement.

well that might be a bit of a stretch

Miles has shown that he can be very successful even with below average QB play

Who do think Coach Cameron would REALLY rather have?
Patterson or Franks if he had his choice. If it was just you and him talking, who do you he would tell you.

Why? Franks had an offer before Patterson. Franks will be our QB so who gives two flips what happens with Parterson.

Well neither QB takes snaps from under center. They really just don't teach it that much in high school anymore. Shotgun in high school is just an easier concept.

In the long run, both of the kids are going to have good careers in my opinion. I like them both. FP committed to LSU already. He's already out recruiting for us. His recruitment also didn't come with strings such as hiring his brother who will be working with QBs. Who do you want to work with your QBs? Cam Cameron/Kragthorpe or Sean Patterson.

Both kids are going to be good. If Hugh Freeze grabs his brain out of his arse, he'll start Shea over Swag.

Either way. LSU is getting a good kid.

Not true. Franks takes snaps from under center.

Both kids are going to the right school.

Shea hasn't worked under center, has great accuracy on short passes, and great escapability and mechanics. He is PERFECT for Freeze's offense.

Shea's cons:
Short, average at best arm strength, hasn't worked under center.

Franks has some I-formation/under center plays, has elite arm strength, and has elite size/height.

Franks' cons:
Poor mechanics and raw.

Shea could end up being Brock Berlin or Drew Brees. Franks could end up being Logan Thomas or Ben Roethlisberger. We just don't know.

I think we got the right guy and obviously the staff does as well. They offered him first and he has been Cam's center of attention for over a year now.

I think both will do very well for their respective teams.

ETA:

Also want to add that Shea might be more "Dual-Threat" than Franks. Not sure why they are classified the way they are. Both prefer to pass, but can run if needed. Shea seems to have quicker feet in the pocket and scrambling though.
