Alx I'm shocked and somewhat disappointed you didn't call his deer an 8 point...

But, it wasn't.

Bleeding purple, I believe this subject was discussed some time ago and I think you posted a picture of a flat head. It was the nicest mounted flat head I ever saw. I catch those from time to time and am planning to mount the next one I catch that's over 30lbs. Would you mind posting that picture and maybe who did the taxidermy?

I caught it by jumping in on top of him and flipping him up on the bank. He was just under 50 lbs. It is a fiberglass replica. I am told catfish are too oily to make good durable mounts. The used a blue cat fiberglass blank and modified the belly and the head to better match the fish and then custom painted it. The whiskers are pheasant quills stripped of the feathers.

Although the fiberglass work looked good to begin with he did not strengthen it well and it has started to warp and crack.

Also for a flat head, the head should have been a bit wider. Here are some more pics and on of the day ai caught it. Fwiw, my wife had it made without asking me based on pictures and weight alone. IIRC it was $550

Thanks for the reply! Hate to see its not lasting for you. I still like that original picture of it. I have also heard it's tough to get a good mount from a catfish. If/when I catch another big one I'll be looking into it in more detail.
