Is it a must the we run the I-formation? What about the veer?

Here are a few reasons for the veer:
1. All of these guys next year are RBs. There is not a true FB on the team. None of these guys are ISO blockers. They didn't come here for that.
2. Two stud RB's on the field at the same time. Defense can't focus/key on one. In the I-formation, three are standing on the sidelines with no action until their "shift".
3. Shorter distance therefore quicker access to the flat for flare passes.
4. Easier to pass block on both sides from the veer.
5. Easier to run the read option when QB not under Center. QB has a little more time and better view of the defensive key. Plus, already in position for a pass.
Please don't tell it can't be done. After visiting Darrel Royal in the early 70's, Bear Bryant closed Spring practice and Fall practice and implemented the wishbone. In our case, implementing the veer would not be quite so drastic.

I'm afraid I veered into a really bad thread

You can still run the toss dive, I'm game

Why must people keep bringing this up

look up 1974 under LSU. It was the veer that started the downfall of Coach McClendon. LSU had 5 straight years of 9 plus wins up till 74. Didn't help that starting qb Mike Miley left LSU to go play pro baseball.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Well the fast defenses in the SEC would fair well against the veer. Also you have to change blocking techniques.

All responders are negative, but no one has offered a reason why it would be ill-advised. (Because it was the beginning of Charlie Mac's downfall doesn't count.)

OK, I hear you, smart man. Now share your wisdom as to why it wouldn't work. Why is the I-formation superior in our scheme of things?

Why do muthafrickas like you assume the offense runs every single offensive play out of I formation?

IN no way is the I superior to the veer, possibly equal, but not superior. However we should run neither as our main offense. We should step into the modern age of football and embrace the way the game is played on offense these days.

Because it would kill recruiting. We would basically be GA Tech in recruiting and quite honestly I have no faith that our staff develops kids like Paul Johnsons does system for system(and I know he doesn't run the veer but for this instance its would be the same deathnail for the program) Not meant as a knock on the staff but for as kooky as he is and an arse, Johnson develops players in his system very well. He just doesn't have the type of talent we are accustomed to here.
Also when it inevitably gets Miles fired, the next coach would have to completely revamp the roster and that would set us back 3-4 more years. So no. That offense and those like it have been made dinosaurs for a reason. Speed on defense kills it.

I guess the same way that outstanding citizens like yourself assume that a switch to the veer would mean that every single play would have to be run from the veer.

Because we dont run an i formation offense. We run a prostyle offense which includes the i formation. The Veer isnt just something thats successful if its not practiced a lot. Coaches only have 20 hours of practice a week. So much can go wrong with that pitch and youre basically asking for the most talented and physical collegiate d lineman to crush your qb once he gets out of the tackle box. Also, hardly anyone recruits straight up fbs now. Teams that use a fb usually just transition him from another spot , like we did with copeland.

We don't have Carl Otis Trimble ( RIP) or Billy Broussard. Maybe we could hire the coaching staff from John Curtis.
