Madison police officer arrested for assault in paralyzed grandfather case

Though I put the chances of conviction somewhere close to 0%, but here's hoping...

Madison Police say they received a call about a suspicious man looking in garages. Both parties agree the officers approached Patel and asked him to stop. The lawsuit states Patel told the officers “no English,” “Indian,” “walking.”

Patel says one of the officers grabbed his arm, twisted it behind his back, and slammed his face into the ground.

Waiting on those posters oleyeller and the dudes rug to pop in and say the guy should have know how to speak English and this wouldn't happen, similar to the overreaction of the police killing the guy throwing rocks earlier.

Looks like they did use some pretty excessive force to bring down a guy in his 50s IMO.

Those are legit arguments being made on the facebook pages of Huntsville/Madison news sites. Ironically coming from people who couldn't pass remedial English.

Those officers may have feared for their life/safety.....for all we know he had a bunch of rocks in his pockets.

Sounds like the officer says "Kept trying to pat him down and he kept running away from me" to explain why he body slammed him.

Its sad to see some of these cops do the things they do. I respect cops and I think they have one of the hardest jobs in the world but please do not abuse your job.

Damn man, that video is fricking awful and sad. In a split second he's paralyzed by some d-bag punk cops.

BTW, look how terribly crime-ridden and dangerous that sidewalk-lined, manicured neighborhood looks.

Officers after body slamming him (remember he can't speak English): "Do you have anything in your pockets?" and "Get up. Stand up. Get up." (he's partially paralyzed at this point IIRC)

Good lord Madison.

I'm a older conservative white male who has always backed the police, BUT I can't defend all these cases any more. It's totally out of control and it starts at the top. The ranking officers have got to make sure the beat officers know, they WILL be charged and arrested if they do this shite. I've made the move to the dark side !

And the fact that he had a spine injury and they were moving him, could have made it much worse. They are all going to get crushed in court.

I actually don't fault them for that...they couldn't have known that without him being able to tell them. They'll pay for it in court obviously...

But it was bad enough they cuffed him for essentially looking different and not being able to speak English...but what in the fricking world REALLY promoted him getting slammed to the ground like that? He hadn't made a move, and since he couldn't speak English it's not even like he said something that pissed the guy off.

He just fricking slammed him...

Only "lucky" thing here is that he got planted into the manicured grass and not on the driveway or sidewalk.
