Seeing a bunch of fish pics and rants about catch and release lately, and it got me curious. This place must be full of Salt Life models and professional photographers.

I looked into it once, talked to a guide about a trip while we were in Disney World. Once he told me about what they typically catch and then explained that it is really "challenging" to catch reds because the redfish in florida are smarter than the dumb redfish in Venice that will eat anything, I realized that their fishing isn't great and I'd rather just go fishing at home after my vacation. Who wants to work all day to catch a red and a snook?

They get so butthurt when someone calls them out. But yeah, I'd rather fish LA than catch big nasty bull reds all day.

no shite. guide was seriously like "you know, we have to work to catch our reds, but when we do they fight great. They're not dumb like those reds that are so easy to catch in Venice that they're no fun." Umm, so your fishing sucks, but the fish are smarter and I should be prouder to catch them. mmkay

It's supposed to be a pretty area though.

I'd be straight with someone who normally fishes in LA and just tell him that inshore fishing in FL might not be as impressive for him. Of course, I'm not having to pay for a boat, slip, etc. off of what I make guiding people.

I want to do it, because I like sight casting and do get a bigger thrill when I hook a fish that I see from across the pond and sneak up on. When my in-laws insist that we go to Disney, I will be making that trip one of the days. But for a guide to bash Louisiana redfish as being dumb is laughable. You just have shitty fishing that's a lot more difficult. Don't make it sound like there's something wrong with our fish population because we have so many.

I've read microskiff . com posts bashing LA fishing because there was an ad with like 18 specks on the deck of a boat. They were acting like we were lawless and this was some huge fish kill . They have no idea that they just don't have the quantities. They do have the variety though, and I'd really like to retire to the keys and catch that stuff everyday.

We used to launch out of Everglade City when I was growing up there. We would catch redfish on cane poles around the mangroves. We could literally sink our boat if our arms didn't give out first. Then came the gill nets. Then came limits on fish. Not worth it any more. Except for snook, LA is way better.
