This old back injury that kept me from going pro is flaring up again and I need it looked at.

What is the injury?

That will dictate which type of doctor you should see

Chambliss Harrod works with McCarthy. I've heard great things about McCarthy, but Harrod worked on my spine (pimped it up with some titanium after I fractured 3 vertebrae), and I would pick him again every time. Harrod has trained under the best in the country (some place in Philly if I recall correctly). I don't remember all the details, but I can vouch for him - he is a top notch doc.

Start with your PCP. Go elsewhere as he recommends. If you don't have a primary care doctor, it's the perfect time to establish one.

I went to him for a consultation once. Will never darken his door again, he is a complete a-hole and works in a veritable medicaid clinic.

The number of waiting rooms they shuffle you though to mask their inefficiencies is epic. The expected wait is so long they have their waiting rooms filled with vending machines.

frick him and the shite hole he works at.

He performed three surgical steroid injection procedures on my back, & twice "worked on" the wrong side. Plus, he is the most arrogant prick doctor I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. ... Also, his nurse did not call my insurance provider for pre-cert, twice, even after my reminding her before the procedure when the appt. was scheduled. I received a bill from the clinic & dr. saying my insurance "refused coverage." I contacted my long term insurance provider who told me what happened - the clinic, nurse, dr., or whomever, did not contact them for pre-certification before the procedures. My insurance company contacted the clinic & told them their mistake, as did I, & basically just told them tough shite; guess you'll have to eat it since you couldn't follow standard insurance policy procedure - twice. ... Will never go back. Dr. Mitchell is great.

My back had me so effed up i couldnt stand up. Was weeks of waiting for a doctor so i tried a chiropractor against my better judgement.

Id fully recommend that first. Been good for about a year now since my last visit

I hear ya. I hadn't felt pain like that since giving birth, & had severe back labor pain, which I can pretty confidently assume feels like someone plunging a knife into the back & twisting, continuously. Only difference is that with the back deal, it was relentless & there was no way to get relief, in any position - sitting, standing, lying down, etc., etc. I seriously hyperventilated & almost blacked out a couple of times, so I'd say the straight back pain was/is even worse than back labor pain during childbirth.
