SAN DIEGO -- For the third time in his past nine tournaments, Tiger Woods has withdrawn with a back injury.

Woods made it to the green on his 12th hole Thursday at Torrey Pines North course before calling it quits in the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

Despite last week saying he had no back issues since his return to competitive golf in December, Woods started showing signs of distress early in Thursday's round, favoring his lower back.

He later blamed it on the lengthy fog delay that pushed back the start of his round by more than two hours.

"It just never loosened back up again,'' Woods said during a 90-second media session before getting into his courtesy car. "And when we went back out, it just got progressively tighter.''

I wonder how many people bet the under on Tiger winning another couple of Masters before he turned 45. They are looking good.

That says 3 of 9.
Golf channel said 3 of 8.
Anybody know which is correct?

I didn't think would happen until the Masters. Well played, Tiger.

he can still go to the Masters and drive for show one time.

They call out the names of the former champs and the old codgers hit one and everyone claps.

I had him missing the cut at the Masters. Now its not a certainty he plays two holes. Will he show up to get the green jacket meal, and drive one for old times sake?

You've been all over Tigers jock last two weeks. And discussed almost NO other players in the tournament fields.

Feel sorry for those so happy to see Tiger struggle that they are missing some amazing golf from a range of players. The crop of young talent on the PGA tour is awesome.

Brooks Koepka needed to par on 18 to win last week. He stepped up and hit it 330 down the pipe with driver. Dude has game and the attitude.

And that's just the winner from last week. I think the Tour is about to have some amazing years.

God, I hope this was your feeble attempt at comedy. Yet somehow, I doubt it.
